hi i have a 1989 944 2.7i lux, with 144k fsh problem ive got is that the oil temp and the volt meter gauge hardly move the red lights work on them but they stall low?everything else works, car drives sound like it should?

Sounds like it could be a problem with the binnacle. Not sure without checking the diagrams though. Stuck in this armpit called Stoke at the minute though!!!

thanks for the reply.im new the the porsche thing..ive always have vws. loving it at the min just few probs got to sort

And there always will be a few little problems it's part of the fun! Just changed the clutch on mine and now it won't start!!! Just haven't had the time to delve in to it. Glad you are enjoying ownership though.

There is no oil temperature gauge. Its pressure, should be above 1 bar at idle, although if its not knocking its probably fine. Odd readings on the gauges are usually earth faults.

Good link there bmnelsc , I did this to my S2 a few weeks back and cured my non working oil pressure gauge also my voltmeter always sat at just over 12v and is now showing a healthy 14v after sitting for a week and just after start up . Oil pressure gauge used to shoot up to max on switching on ignition giving the indication that the pressure sensor is faulty . Worth doing these checks on the clocks before rushing out with alternator under arm . [;)]
Its also worth going on the hunt for every earth point that you can find on the car , remove ,clean and refit . Also starter motor connections are susceptible to the elements remove and clean these also, but dont forget to disconnect battery first.[:(]
Happy motoring !

Just mentioning what was wrong with mine for those 2 gauges.

Volts - Alternator bushes
Oil Pres - pressure sender (lives under the oil filter)

Just another couple of things to look at if its nothing thats been mentioned already
