OIL,Good or Bad !!!

Hello people... I have just returned from a trip to the nurburgring and have been wondering if the oil the engine has used is a little or a lot ? The oil level was spot on the full mark when leaving home, after travelling to germany and including some round about trips i covered about 400 miles, when i got to the ring the next day i done 9 laps( 3 laps with a half to an hour break) i then checked the oil and it was showing slightly under full...i then drove back to the Belgium border and then returned to the ring the next day and then covered another 5 and a half laps, i then rechecked the oil, this time it showed slightly under 3/4 full so i topped it up to just under full. i then done another 4 laps this time 2 laps with an hour break in between and then drove back to england... i then checked the level again and it was showing half way between half and 3/4... so at the end of the day i done around 1350 miles and used around 3/4 of a litre of oil... bearing in mind on the track laps the engine was being held in high revs, and the time spent on the motorways the car was travelling at speeds between 100 to 140 for good lengths of time is this oil usage good or bad ?[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I'd say that's good. The last time I did a trackday I forgot to take some oil with me and through the course of the day I used a full litre (i.e. from teh max mark to the min mark). I drove home very gingerly. That was my oil usage on one track day - and my car uses virtually zero oil on normal day to day driving.

I did a Nurby trip in mine earlier this year. Used about a litre there & back, plus about another litre on-track. Lead-footed it there, came back on cruise control.

Sorry, the car is a 944 S2 with 140 plus on the clock, i always service the car every 9 to 12 months new plugs filters and gt mag...

Thanks all for putting my mind at rest as i wasnt sure what other cars use on the track and road, i have never realy whatched the oil that closely before even on other long distant ring trips.Any how i treated it to new oil and filter early as the oil was starting to look alot darker on the dipstick than before i left...

I wouldn't worry as I think it's OK, but in my experience even my 192k miles S2 didn't use a drop ever, although I didn't do a proper track day in it. I assumed from post #1 it was a Turbo as they all use some but in my experience the NA cars never use any.
