OIL CHANGE????

We have a Macan GTS which will be 3 years old January 2027. It had its first oil service at the beginning of this year (January). Mileage then 7569. It is now reading 10461 miles (so circa 4000 miles/year)and is telling us OIL CHANGE NOW!

What,,,, I don't remember ever having to change oil and filters after so few miles. I am old enough to remember cars having oil and filters done at 6000 mile intervals. But thought modern sybthetic oils and filtration systems mean more like 10000 or 12000 miles as being realistic. OPC Tonbridge say it is not uncommon on the Macan! Really? Any other Macan owners on here and have you had anything like this with your vehicle?

I think you’ll find that this is a common issue on here Gary. The Macan has a combined oil level and oil condition sensor, the latter measuring the oil quality depending upon vehicle use: short, stop-start journeys, spirited driving, etc., so I assume that it’s this which is recommending your sooner than expected oil change.

It’s possible that there could be an issue with the sensor, but since your car’s under the factory warranty you’ll need to ask Tonbridge to run some diagnostics to confirm or otherwise.

Jeff, thankyou for your prompt reply. If the Macan needs an oil change that's OK but my brain questions it when the vehicle isn't yet three years old. Only 10,456 miles and requires it's third lot of oil! Factory originally + our oil, filters etc changed at circa 6000 miles and now asking for more.

Couldn’t agree more Gary, and I’m too of an age where two or three oil changes per year were commonplace! Unfortunately with the warranty situation you’re more or less obliged to follow the servicing prompt.

A fellow Club member and Macan GTS owner in my village recently encountered an identical situation where his yearly service was due in a two or three months and discussed the situation with dealer who agreed to let the situation ride for a while given his low usage, although I think he may have had the service carried out slightly early.

I suggest that you have similar conversation with Tonbridge if you’re not planning to do many miles in the next two months or so.

2.9l Macan engines use oil‑quality sensors to monitor contamination, temperature cycles, and moisture. If the car is used for short trips, stop–start driving or journeys where the engine is not fully warmed up, engine oil will degrade faster and the car will suggest an oil change between service intervals.

Looking at it in the round, it is more expensive to run a high performance motor vehicle, which I regard a GTS is, but a lot cheaper to change the oil rather than risk potential damage to the engine. I change mine at 2k miles from new and then every 12 months thereafter, whether or not the car reminds me. 👍🏼🛢️

Clive

My oil service light pops up way before its due a service low mileage as well only ever circa 4 k between oil services.
Ridiculous

As mentioned, probably oil condition. Also you'll get fuel and water dilution in the oil if the engine doesn't get up to temperature to where both can burn off.

What I find ridiculous is anybody buying a Porsche and driving it less than 4k miles a year! If you don't like driving it, get rid, at that mileage an EV will suit you better. My S has clocked up 47,400 in 44 months, oh the joy! Having indulged in a Boxster 981 GTS in July the Macan might get more rest..

Now retired my Macan does not do the mileage anymore its there when i need it .
Also mileage is split between my wifes GTS and the everyday.
So not selling at present thank you.

I’m the Macan Gts owner Jeff highlights above as having my dashboard showing an oil service due 3 months before the main service and the OPC confirming that as mileage wasn’t going to be breached l could delay it nearer to the main service. This l did but brought the main forward a month.

However, strangely, whilst the dashboard was reset after the main service to show the next main service is due 2 years/ 20k miles, the oil service show as required in 16 months/ 14k miles.
Weird.
