Off Topic Any ipod Geeks

Got a bit of a problem with my missus's ipod nano 5th gen. Plugged into mains charger it will come to life and says it is charged but turns off when unplugged and won't reset via the click wheel buttons. When connected to my lappy the Apple log just comes on and off and the computer doesn't recognise it. If I put the ipod into disk mode it will recognise it and functions with itunes. Restored it to factory settings and it is now just the same. I know it's off topic but hey that's what we do on here - help each other. Just a bit pi**ed off as the device is only 18 months old. Thanks in advance guys.

I know my way around quite a few Apple products, but it's always difficult to know what has or has not been tried, and without being there it's quite difficult to solve the problem...

Can I suggest you work through the fixes on here then let us know how it goes: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano5gen/#

Mine froze but I found a cure on you tube. Just go onto you tube and type in I pod nano fix and you will get loads of tutorials on how to fix it. Mine was to push and hold a combination of buttons and it re booted the ipod . Hey presto fixed and not even lost music on it.

I have had similar issues with a number of different Ipod models from Nano to Touch and the normal route is to plug it into the mains with proper mains charger not through a dock and hold the middle button and the menu down together then the apple log appears and in theory it should boot up. The Ipod touch needed the same treatment and a full restore as you have done.

Does it hold charge when unplugged as it may be a battery fault and this is not easy to replace in a Nano but can be done.

Like others have said there are a few solutions online maybe give them a try but it could be a battery fault and you tube has videos of how to replace one in a Nano, you need to be careful when removing the case though as it is easily distorted.

If you get stuck,go to the apple shop? They give really good product support even if its older stuff. They sorted my mrs phone out and it wasnt new by a long shot.

Thanks for all your input guys. Been doing some more digging today and I think the battery is shot. I can get a new one off of fleabay for a fiver with free tools. At that price it's defo worth a shot at changing it.
