Off to Australia!

Well its time for an update on the move, settling into my new house slowly had all new down lights, dimmers etc. fitted and lots of sockets and lights in the garage. Luckily my eldest son runs his own electrical contracting company here so family rates apply!
The 996 has landed at Freemantle and is going through the system slowly the good news being its passed its first compliance test but with a few issues. The VIN number on the car does not match the V5 as 1 character is incorrect, a typo I had them before on V5s, as there should be an S an its on the form as a 5! How many times has it been checked - several even by Porsche! the second small issue is the rear child seat belt anchorages which are small brackets on the back shelf as these are mandatory here in WA, they are removing the rear parcel shelf as that's where they should be but we will see. They are confident that these issues will be resolved but have delayed the return of my car to me by say 2-3 weeks will get an update Friday week. The battery survived the journey but did not have enough power to start the car but as soon as a slave to connected the correct way up it fired apparently.
So still no Porsche!
The weather here is hot and 39deg for Saturday glad the house has AC. Next week its autumn!

Just thought I would update where we are! This week its been 28 weeks since my 996 went to the docks to begin its journey to Australia and I am pleased to write that yesterday after many problems, trials and tribulations it turned up at my house unannounced in the pouring rain still with its UK number plates on! I can confirm that it now has a Australian VIN plate on the O/S B pillar (with the correct VIN code) so conforms to their laws and a set of blue and white WA number plates I fitted today having registered the car this morning with DOT, now insured as well I can drive it on WA roads at last. The cost was $10700 to get it here in the end and here they are going for between $70K - $99K so still in money wise. I have been cleaning the car all night and into PM today and it now is beginning to look like its old self. No damage I can see so all good.
I intend to go to my first Porsche Club outing this Sunday into the wilds of Perth after a cars & coffee meet at University of WA. I will post pictures when I have some once I have my private fitted 996 C4S all for the princely sum of $510 (£300ish). Apart from that I am settling in here and getting used to the Ozzy way of life![8D]

Well the car is now sorted and has its new WA number plate on so hopefully many klms of motoring ahead!!

Brad,

Good to hear that you've settled in and that you're up and running again with the 996 - looking good with that plate too.

Enjoy the wide open spaces that Oz provides, but watch your speed...!

All the best.

Jeff
