Morning chaps, warning, longish post..:)

As you will be aware I am currently awaiting delivery of a new wastegate to replace the old one which we believe to be stuck open. We won't really know if this is the case until we actually remove the old one but everything poibts to a failed WG. The replacement is due this week, let's hope so, I miss my car.

So why this thread, well yesterday was my grandaughters 3rd birthday and one of the surprises her parents had bought for her birthday party yesterday was a large trampolin. Now this was due to be delivered to my son's home address in Hemel Hempstead late Saturday evening by Argos, it meant a late night for my son erecting it but it meant the surprise element was intact.
At the expected delivery time but some got a message to say the driver had arrived....no argos van outside?
Panicking he phoned home to see if Argos had gone to the wrong address...yep, outside my house was an Argos van...lol
The packages weigh in at 55kgs, time was after 9pm, the first thought was to call son number two as he has a pickup, he said, yes he could do it but not until much later, it was Ford night at the Ace Cafe and he was there with his family for the evening. The Seymour-Howell clan were out in force at the Cafe this Saturday, my son, his partner and their two kids were all present....in 4 seperate cars???... lol. Needless to say my son's mint Escort Cossie was the star, his partner took his modified RS Focus and of course his kids drive Fords...:)

Anywsy, back on topic, the 3 heavy packages were too large to fit into my wife's C1 and my son's wife was out late shopping with their only car ( 4x4 )capable of transporting the load and the clock was ticking. I hadn't been driving my car cor obvious reasons but things were despetate...a little girl's happiness was at state.
I decided to see if I could fit the load into the 951, it was tight but just fitted.
With the time getting late snd car loaded with the trampolin and even my wife could fit, we headed for Hemel. So after that long drawn out intro, we get to the car.
Observations other than the obvious lack of turbo power.
The engine felt as strong as ever, just no ommph of power when expected. The gearing is different, normally I rarely get out of second gear in town, now I found that I needed to change up much sooner as there was just no power in the higher rpm. I suspect this is due to the 951's long legs, not really suitable for an N/A.
There wasn't any point in going over 5k rpm, the engine just didn't have the get up and go of a turbo so no point as the time taken to get to say 100mph would be far too long, risking seeing blue lights flashing behind. I never sit at high speed for more than a few seconds.
The car was certainly capable of high speed though and felt completly normal off boost. A few times I opened up a little and watched the stepper boost gauge closely, the needle moved just as fast as per usual but hits a solid brick wall at 0 bar, no positive pressure at all and it seems to be at this point that the powerband looses out and the need to go up a gear.
In all other aspects things are normal, the engine still pops on overun with a burble which may be a little quieter and of course, no whoosh from the dumpvalve.
As stated the WG should be here by end of the week and hopefully my son will find time to install it soon after, only then will I know for sure if it is the WG at fault, fingers crossed..:)

Good luck Pete. Be interested in your findings and hope it is indeed the WG!

I had a failed diaphragm in my Lindsay WG, but this of course had the opposite effect of no WG opening and unlimited boost!

Not sure why you would want those but no, funny as it may seem, but taking pictures of a van and the 3 large heavy boxes that came out of it never occured to me...????

Just get a sprayer and spend the rest of the time having a snooze

Ah...but I have 4 son's and this one is the IT expert, not the one who will be working on my car..????

So, there's the bestest mechanic, bestest paint sprayer, bestest IT expert, was the Post man and/or Milk man a clever fella then? :ROFLMAO:

Pete we are doing a coffee morning 10-12 at south mimms, on the 7th August if you can make it in any car, I have your gaiter trim clip dohdah

Hi Martyn...doubt that I can make it...lots going on here trying to find a house while also sorting out packing at mine...lol

No then Pete can I post it to you before I break it, as i am sure to do eventually

Going by how brittle these things get, that might not be a good idea...it certainly wouldn't be easy to post the window seal in exchange. My new WG is due this week, if it arrives and my son manages to fit it next Saturday, i may try to get up there. The car will need a test run anyway. I won't know till Saturday night though

Regards

Pete
