Number of RHD Porsche 356 in the UK?

Hi

I'm sure I had this to hand[8|] However, I cant seem to locate it. Can anyone point in the direction of where to find numbers for Porsche 356 RHD by model, coupe, Cab etc on the road in the UK?

Thanks in advance, hope to see you out and about once restrictions are lifted.
 
Hello John, I do not think FH comes on this forum, he should know how many RHD 356 there are, owned by Club members in UK.
I think Mike Smith of PR Services might know the total including other non PCGB member owners.
I know there are a few RHD conversions from LHD, as well as some RHD cars from S Africa and Australia.
It would be interesting to find out what the numbers are, good luck.

Why limit any request to just RHD?

A surviving 356 is a survivor. Whilst many register their car with the Club there are many that still don't.

Gee, guys, maybe if you had a decent working relationship with Fred, you'd find this easy. I have met Fred all of 5 times ever.

I have always found him extremely approachable, intensely passionate about what he does so very well, and dismissive of fools to the point that many club 'personalities', ie big egos, seek to undermine him at every opportunity. As possibly the longest serving multiple RS, former chairman, supreme event organiser, and holder of the Porsche contact list that's bigger than any of you can dream about ! Yet there is this constant carping, which has escalated significantly in the advent of 'noo media' with all the attendant h0rse sh1t, General Managers appointing staff to deliberately undermine Register Secretaries, Porsche Post now including many freeby 'features' on the watches you really must have, journalism that betrays any perception of specialist knowledge and everybody blowing their increasingly noisy trumpets about the new wave of growth that is destroying the Club some of us love too much to stand by uselessly as spectators.

Fred is an absolute rock of dedication to what were the Club's values, yet he and others are seriously considering breakaway groups. For everyone's sake, wake up and smell the coffee !! Maybe he won't take your calls as you don't make them, you expect him to be bothered with new platforms that turn up every bl00dy week !

And a jolly good Easter Monday morning to you all ...

Maurice your post is rambling and has strayed well off-topic, comes across as electioneering in my book.

Please don't assume that 356 owners do not have a working relationship with Fred.

Hi John, a perfectly reasonable question first and foremost.

Yes it is true that all 356's are special left or RHD. When I sought to 'find' my 'perfect' 356 I joined our club (in 1998 I think it was). After deciding that one of my 'must haves' was RHD and receiving the best advice from Fred (which has proved right time again) it took four years to find that car. Since 2002 it has been resident in my garage (winter months only??) My kids grew up in the back seats, and I have driven over 70,000 miles in 'Charlie' since November 27th 2002 to some fabulous places and race tracks. The overwhelming majority of 356'ers that I have met on several continents have been the most welcoming and accommodating (including being invited to view private collections in San Francisco, 2 Gmund coupes, yes two in the same garage).

At the turn of the century (how does that sound!) the figure for RHD cars in the UK quoted to me was about 100, not all of these cars were roadworthy!
Since then many more would have been restored I'm sure but the figure can't be more than 150 can it?

p.s. If you are 6ft 5in tall and most of it is in your legs try trying to find reverse in a 356 with a standard steering wheel, that could have been an expensive lesson to learn if I had bought LHD??

p.p.s This is the first time I have been on this forum in years, I wasn't planning on posting but hey, ho.

I somehow thought that I had seen a web site listing how many were left in the UK.
What prompted to me to ask the original question and not seek seek guidance from 'in house' Register sources was that not all RHD 356 cars will be Registered with PCGB since owners may not be PCGB members.

 
John, I think the figure of one hundred or so I quoted from the early 2000's was for both RHD & LHD cars. I would love to know how many R.H.D. & L.H.D cars there are currently in the UK, sadly I think we will never find out. All the best in your search though.
