Noticed damp carpet in the drivers footwell this morning after a wash.

If its in the front it will be coming in from the area in front of the windscreen, where the battery / wipers are, there are two drain holes there that get blocked up with leaves etc that allow water to build up and enter the cabin. Pull the plastic cover off and you will see, the drain holes are not obvious but have a look on google! This especially happens when washing as your using much more water than just rain.

Thanks Rob, that sounds more likely. I'll take a good look at those drains at the weekend hopefully.

No worries, mine had the same. Might need an airline to blow them through, the one on the driver side by the battery tray is easy to get to, the one on the passenger side a bit more tricky.

Airline maybe a good plan. I know on my 944 I avoid air on the drains as there are some not so strong unions that may split or burst if blasted with an airline. Any such risk on these?

I think on the 996 they are a solid pipe at the front, but a gentle blow through should be fine, to be honest you'll probably see the blockage at the top of the hole anyway

After I discovered the same problem I had to go to see my GP. I’m waiting for an appointment with a geriatric specialist.

I hope you solve the problem Phil.
