Not the right engine on car?????

Hello all.
I would like some info regarding the engine on the 912.
For what i could find there are 2 engines that were produce for this car.
65-69 1.6 carb
76 2.0 fuel injection

I have been looking on one on sale and have some strange info.
For what i could find from the car vin is a 1969 assembled at the Karmann factory
But here start the strange info, the car is anounced as 1970 with a 1.7 fuel injected engine
On other sale add is a 2.0 fuel injected


For what i found the 1.7 was on the 914.

Hi,

The 912 comes with a 1588cc engine with twin Solex P11-40 carburettors and 4 cylinders, built between 1965 and 1969.

The 912E has 4 cylinders and was only available for one year (May 1975 to July 1976). The prototype was fitted with the 914/4 engine, but once in production was fitted with the 2.0L VW fuel-injected engine.

The 1969 912 should have a VIN number that would start with 129 00 0001 et seq.

Although I am unfamiliar with the VW T4 engine, a previous owner may have retro-fitted this into the 912. Apparently a known 'mod'.

Thanks for the fast reply.
So this is what i was thinking, the previous owner changed the engine.
As a original pont of view this could be a plus for me to negociate the price of the car.
The vin is 129021...
