Not a good evening!

Over the years Ive seen probably ten to twelve cars which have been written off due to hydraulic damage, so there certainly is a precedent - I wouldnt worry at all in that respect.

One had substantial damage to the bonnet too, dcaused by the impact from the cylinder head, so great was the force involved!

This year's must have mod (or not) - the sump cooling hole.

Those aren't pretty pictures. Sorry to see them.

Out of curiosity, what will cause a hole in the sump from water ingress? What would have hit the sump hard enough, from inside, to make that hole?

Oli.

I did think that too and wondered if I had hit something initially, but the hole is definitely from an internal rupture.

What happens is the engine breathes in the water instead of air but as it doesn't compress like air the piston just stops whilst the rest of the engine carries on rotating and something breaks.

Sorry to hear about it but as the others have said the insurance should cover it, the costs involved may make it a constructive total loss but tell the assessor you want the salvage in that event and talk to Elliott.

Good luck.

Flippin Heck Dave ! well and truly busted................it'll polish out [;)]
Good Luck keep us posted, Turbo S still for sale i see ?

Yep that's certainly not going to run again... even forged rods would go under that type of pressure, just look at top fuellers at the drag strip when they hydraulic. Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction and looking on the bright side of things, it's a good excuse to do all those other jobs that you wanted to sort at the same time.

Pete
