Nitrogen Filled Tyres

Ok, buy a cylinder of nitrogen (pretty cheap, as very commonly used in industry), and stick in garage (or boot, when you take the car out - have you seen how heavy they can be ? !), but then pumping up the tyres could be a bit fraught.
OK, I will stop now, and take a deep, relaxing breath from my white capped cylinder (they are colour coded, for the uninitiated).

What would the implications be of having an initial fill with Nitrogen and then top ups with compressed air on a garage forecourt?
Well, you would be replacing Nitrogen with Nitrogen/Oxygen (plus traces of H2O, Neon, Argon etc.) - Ok, lets just call it air - so what would be the point of the initial Nitrogen only ?

(Actually, white is oxygen - can't remember what nitrous oxide is).
