Newbie with 944

New to the site and to owning a 944 and I'm in need of help or advice on a few things up with it.
Firstly,the clips that control the heater flaps and temperature have broken meaning I have hot air and no control on the flaps.I found these on an american site for a few dollars but not really too sure what the postage is going to be like. Had a quick look through a Porsche catalog online but I couldn't find them. I have realised that this is quite a common fault according to google searches so was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to getting replacements. I also live on the isle of Wight so nipping into a Porsche dealer isn't possible.
Secondly,the hatch is letting water in and it's mostly wet underneath where the wiper is but I ve also noticed the hatch seal is about an inch too short so it doesn't meet in the middle. Should I replace the seal or is there another seal to check first?

Come on form an orderly queue to post the heater bearing and clip numbers Cheapest place is actually a Porsche dealer pennies each. Actually officially in packs of three of each but many dealers will sell you one of each. The porsche centre will send the part out to you - sorry don't know the part number, Bournemouth are pretty good and exeter work hard for us 944 owners and are also very good. I think they are about 95p Easy to get to if you remove the glovebox lining, but watch out for the light shorting - might be worth taking the fuse out first. They sometimes leak around the rear lights, but the boot seal shouldnt have a gap in it. They can also leak at the top of the glass where it meets the frame. Welcome to the forum! Tony

I think this is the standard fix for first time owners (it's exactly what I was doing earlier this year and I paid pennies for them, even bought a couple of spares as the mixing valve also uses the same support and clip). Welcome, you already know the problem with the heater, an hours job, do a google and find a new hatch seal dhould be a 40 odd mm gap above the rear lock with an interconnecting black rubber tube, no gaps ! Check out Alasdair (Sulzeruk) on this forum he will have a good complete secondhand one at sensible money......................Enjoy they are great when fettled !

Thanks for all the replies. Great help already! It's got lots of niggly things that need sorting but I'm used to that with my mk2 golf which is a constant battle. Is it supposed to have illuminated switches with the lights on? I can't see where anything is at night. All that aside, it is a great car to drive and I'm loving it already.

Hi and welcome - our guys are slipping - 3 replies and no one has demanded photos! Switches are not illuminated I'm afraid and (I'm guessing) the oval dash cars console switches can at least be seen in the daylight, in the early (square dash) cars you have to look backwards and down under your arm to see them!

Yes it is an oval dash model. I will upload pics soon as it's not raining and see if any of you guys recognise it because it has a Porsche club sticker on the window. How do I upload pics can I do it through photo bucket and copy and paste the img code? Cheers for all the replies already. Can't wait to get out and start doing stuff to it.

Cheers I'll post pics at weekend when it's light and dry hopefully. It's a 90 non turbo 2.7 apparently s2 although to be honest I don't know for sure because I didnt buy it. I was sat at my inlaws Christmas day and opened a present which was a Haynes manual and the next one was a key. Then I got told to go outside and there was a black 944 there.

If its a 944S2 then itll have a three litre engine. If it has a 2.7l engine then its 1989 model year 944, which could have been registered in 1990; mine was registered a couple of days short. That would be a series two 944, although not an S2, which can be confusing... Simon

welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing some pics. re the leak at the back a couple of other thinks you should check are the rear hatch lock channels which should both have drainage tubes . Check they are fitted and not blocked. Also has anyone mentioned the rear lights? they are a favourite source of leaking. I suppose its possible for water to get in through the wiper fixing hole too. I should think its unlikely to be getting past the rear hatch seal as there is a generous lip above the drainage channel all round the opening

Good to see that there are still buyers for 944. I'm also a new member, and now actively looking for my first 944, so any help will be more than welcome. I think I spotted the lady that will fullfill my dreams (944 S2 2+2), going to have a look at her next week, any tips for what I should be aware? Cheers
