New windscreen

Having replacement screen fitted by autoglass tomorrow in my 996 cab. Just googled and found that some are saying to expect creaking after a new screen fitted! Don't like the sound of that! I have paid excess by card today so pretty committed . They come between 11 & 3 tomorrow and I'll be watching like a hawk. Anyone had any experiences or anything I should look out for please?

I've had many screens replaced by autoglass over the past years for all sorts of shapes and sizes of car and I have never, ever had an issue (touch wood). If the Porsche needed one I would get one and not think twice tbh.

Their windscreens are always OEM spec and hence they are more expensive than anywhere else (my M5 windscreen was over £1200.00 compared to the local back street place that could do it for 300!).

I take that back! They have just been round. "oh its got a rain sensor!" yes just like I told you on the phone! Now have to wait until tomorrow! :-( pillocks! []

LOL, ok sounds like you got some bad luck - but they should return with a decent quality screen, most of the dealers around here even use Autoglass for customers cars.

The branch in Swindon has always done well for me tbh, no complaints.

They have just replaced the screen on my 996 Turbo after I waited 10 days for one to arrive. Ive been told to expect creaking and they said a squirt of lubricant under the seal will cure?? However they have put a small cut in my dash and left lots of glue around the passenger pillar. Pick the car up in an hour to survey the damage myself. I would stand over them and watch them like a hawk.

I think the generally accepted wisdom is the windscreen needs to be put in by someone who knows what they are doing
if it isnt put in properly it will creak like buggery
I had to use Autoglass on my C2 and it sounded worse than an old leather shoe
the windscreen is bonded in and frankly most of these guys dont get enough of the requisite experience a guy recently on pistonheads asked the same question and they used the Glassman

I have included the thread re the gt2but it the same for all i would add if your insurance insists the watch them like a hawk

AutoG have a habit of also reusing the surround mouldings. These should always be replaced when refitting a new screen.

Thanks for all the advise guys, glassman says that apparently creaking is due to ptfe tape not being replaced. I'll be watching "Gavin" like a hawk! Apparently guy coming tomorrow is experienced in these cars so fingers crossed! That's if they bring the correct screen this time! So hard to find big companies offering a consistent service these days , always seems to be luck of the draw. Thanks again! Will update tomorrow ..

Just had mine replaced at OPC Cambridge with a Porsche screen and fitting kit.[]

Looks fine, fitted well no marks or scratches and SAT NAV & telephone still works!

Would not trust Highway Windscreens, my insurance companies fitter of choice so had it done properly.

Phew! All done! Fortunately they sent a top bloke who often fits for Paragon (my local Indy) had full fitting kit including new seals which was great as mine had a few marks from stones etc. Actually turned out that my existing one was poorly fitted with 2mm gap one side and 8mm the other! He has done a great job, waited for the obligatory hour and took it for a test, no issues and great to have a nice clean view ! Top marks! []
