New windscreen - how much?!?

Just ordered a new windscreen and seal from Germany through OPC Swindon.

They said it was the most expensive windscreen they've ever quoted on. Their labour is only £90.

Cost fitted incl VAT = £904.20!!!

Fortunately Hagerty have agreed to cover all costs less a £100 excess as I chose my own repairer - would have been £60 if Autoglass fitted it. Hagerty are really good to deal with so it's a shame I won't be able to renew with them in August.

Rich you don't need a new screen just because you took it out your garage and a fly hit it.

This is accepted as norm for non garage queens.

Honest, next time you take the car out I bet you another fly commits suicide on it....

...had the windscreen replaced on my 993 5 years ago for 1181,69 EUR incl. VAT. It´s a bit different from the 964, the windscreen is glued. But, that´s what you pay for a Porsche windscreen.

Never had it replaced in my Cup car yet, it looks partially sandblasted from track use.
But why do you want to replace it in the Butzi car? Is it cracked?

When I had to replace my 944 screen a few years ago I think it was up there price wise

Wonder what it is now?
Had to relpace the Zafira's last year and Autoglass's "official price" was £970!

Picked up a big stone chip which grew hairline cracks and can't be repaired. I'm actually quite pleased I'll have a new screen as mine looks sandblasted when driving into the sun too.

Just need to put a cordless drill on the speedo and hit full power in reverse for 100,000kms and I'll be able to sell it to Thomas for one billion dollars!

Hacki if the 964 screen is fitted correctly, that is glue'd in as well ! Very clearly mentioned in the workshop manual.

... AFAIK the technique used for the 993 windscreen is different. They actually had problems in the early years with the new glue as it was too aggressive and destroyed the paint next to the seal.
The 964 screen is still the factory one, so no prob with that one. Interesting point, worth to find out the difference in detail.

Come on, usual suspects, anoraks out!

Rich

I think Hagerty are taking you for a ride if they want £40 more for using your own fitter. I've always done that and have never paid any additional excess. I doubt very much if you have anything in your policy requiring you to pay more.

I believe the 964 RS and Cup were bonded in from new. That's what I've had done when fitting replacements.

It's definitely in the Hagerty Allianz Policy document:

Windscreen excess:
- £60 for replacement with our approved repairer Autoglass
- £NIL for repair with our approved repairer Autoglass
- £100 for replacement or repair ([&:]) with any other repairer
