new wheels will they fit???????

ORIGINAL: Copperman05

Dont forget the D90, 993 16's come in 9" at the rear too, 255 section being the standard for 9s and I would have thought enough for your 350bhp!

944 D90s also come in 9x 16: those are the ones I took off mine. The factory standard tyre for 9x16 on a 944 is 245/45 16. The standard tyre width goes up to 255 on 9x17 wheels (factory 968 fitment)

Cant really think of many cars that "need" wheels that big, it is only aesthetics that they are there for, fashion and givign an impression of sporty/fast to those who dont have a clue, most competition cars dont have massive wheels or liquorice profile tyres. These wheels look good but generally are just mass produced, fit for purpose, but very heavy and very prone to damage. Not sure the tyres offer that much of a roadholding advantage anyway, trouble is the manufacturers cant go back now.

Wonder how much power and fuel running an 18 inch rim on a diesel hatch robs compared to a 14/15 inch like they used to have, how much unsprung mass it adds and does a wheel being bigger/heavier have a higher gyroscopic effect.

Funny how in pretty much every review Autocar reccomend the smaller wheel option for a given car as being the best one yet everyone chooses the biggest, the country seesm to all aspire to a white Audi A5 with the lowest diesel engine on the biggest wheels they can find.

Not me. I run my BMW on 16" in the winter and 17" in the summer. If I had two sets of 16" wheels I would run it on 16" all year round.

Hey I baught the wheels and put them on for a test fit they look stupid

We did try and tell you! If I were you I'd fit one of the Porsche cup style wheels, 16 or 17", anything else and the car is trying to look something its not. Teledials on a S2 will look a bit drab as they will be the later offset and pretty ugly, fuchs reps wont fit either if they are the early offset.

You can get Fuchs-alikes Edd. Theyre usually available 5x100 PCD, along with 5x130 in some styles, aimed at VW owners obviously. Ive wondered what a set of 17"s would look like on a 944 - 16"s dont seem to be available unfortunately, although 14" & 15" are.

Theyre a shade over £500 for a set of 7" x 17"s.

they are 19"

Not a good idea in my view as the suspension set up on a 20+ year old Porsche is not a multilink negative geometry setup like a modern car that is designed to run on thin sidewalled tyres.

The 944 is a simple wishbone that flexes and moves in big rubber bushes and is tied in by a top mount and therefore relies on tyre wall compliance as part of the design, to run rubber bands will be a poor choice in my view as the rest of the suspension then has harsher loadings to cope with (and it doesnt)

16`s are the manufacturers design choice with the correct profile tyres but 17`s are the largest general concensus says you should go (and they need 968 castor mounts as the squirm from larger tyres with next to no sidewall compliance puts stress on the original fully rubber bush) - do a search for tramlining.

Simon, I've been looking at these on and off for months...just not sure, it's a pity you can't go to these wheel places and try 2 on 1 side to see if they are the look you want.
I also really like the Fuchs replica's from Design 911 but they don't fit either...GGrrrrrrrr

I understand. Ive been waiting for someone to try a set for about two years! Theyre quite expensive, but they appear to offer better value than the proper Fuchs copies, which are now at proper p*ss-taking levels.

In 2007/2008 I was talking to an American supplier about importing a few sets of reasonable 7"x16" & 8"x16" Fuchs copies. They were reasonably well regarded and only cost £250 a set. The deal killer unfortunately, was that like so many 'Merkin vendors, they couldnt be arsed to find a decent shipping quote and idly quoted me the $500 per set that their usual domestic carrier quoted them.

A friend of mine has a set of the 17's above I will pay him a visit get a pair put on the car take a photo and post them up up will be next week at some point

Sweet. As advertised they arent ideal at 7" wide and an offset of 45mm. I have been meaning to ring the vendors and ask whether theyve got 8" rims and a little more offset too, as they mention other sizes and offsets in their advert.
