New to me 2003 996 Cabrio ... upgrade PCM?

Recently purchased a 996 C2 which has PCM and Bose audio ... it has its original map disc and I’d like to upgrade so have been doing some reading, and have ordered a PCM update disk to take the firmware to V3.0 and a recent map disk.

However, I have read some conflicting information regarding upgrading PCM with BOSE and the possibility of bricking the Bose amp! Although most of the info appears to relate to the 997 and PCM2.1

Can anyone tell me whether I need to make sure I upgrade the BOSE system (how?) or will the 996 PCM2 with BOSE upgrade OK?

It is perfectly safe to use the PCM2.0 V3 update disk in a 996 with Bose. As you say, it is only the early 9x7.1 Bose amps where you have to be careful. Just make sure the update disk supplied has part number 000.043.205.46.

There is also a separate update disk for Bose to address an issue with sporadic sound failure. If you don't have such problems don't bother with it, but if you need it I have a copy.

The map and update disc I have ordered from The Sat Navi Shop ... I don’t know what the part number for the update disc is. I expect it will be a copy so is there any way to check?

I don’t appear to have any sound issues with my Bose system, but thank you for the offer, it’s very kind of you. I’ll post an update on how it goes when I get the discs through.

When you get the update disk, pop it in your computer (if you have a CD drive!) and open the file update32.inf. Check the first couple of lines read like this:

ReleaseVersion=3.0
AllowedDevices=6631,6632,6633,6634

I just wanted to be sure that you weren't getting a PCM2.1 update. Some sellers don't have a clue about the intricacies of the PCM updates.

I finally got around to completing the PCM2 V3 upgrade, and thanks to Richard who allayed my fears, all went to plan. Much easier and less risky than in my Range Rover!

only apparent issue was the Bluetooth adapter that replaces the CD Changer ... on rebooting, the PCM claimed a fault with the CD Changer and the BT wouldn’t work, but after a system shutdown it’s all back working again.

i now have up to date maps (well, 2016 dated) ... it seems a worthwhile upgrade although I cannot see any changes to look or options on the PCM itself.
 
Hi, does anyone have a copy of the PCM2 software version 3 they can share or the disc they no longer need.
