New starter motor

Last week I dropped my car off for it's MOT, which it passed first time - no advisories. It has recently started acting as though the starter solenoid was giving problems, so i asked them to take a look at that. Upshot is I've got a new start motor as that was the problem. What an amazing difference! It starts instantly now, with no hesitation at all. None of the old rather agricultural slow turnover. Just bursts into life instantly!

Took it out for a quick spin today and it's lovely. At long last after untold thousands spent, it's running beautifully. If only I hadn't spent half an hour stuck in a queue on Jamaica Road to end the drive.

Hi, I have a rather reluctant starter motor myself. It's a non-OEM starter that was bought new and fitted by the previous owner. It always feels as though the battery is flat when starting and I always wonder whether it's going to turn over fast enough to start.

My question is - is your new starter a genuine Porsche one, or did you opt for non-OEM? If Porsche, could you give an idea of cost as I may consider changing mine.

Thanks.

Both my 944 and 924S were 'lazy' when starting but eventually they would spin over and start. That was with the original starter motors. (circa 1984 and 1986). Fitted starters from EuroCarParts to them both. Those starters nearly spun the car they were that good. No need for OEM at silly money.

Cheers,

Thanks for your prompt response. I did mention it to my local independent garage when it was in there and they blamed it on the non OEM part. Maybe that particular one is faulty or poor quality. I'll check Euro Car Parts and get one from there. Thanks.

Before replacing the starter motor check all the earth cables have a good contact and also the condition of them, if its getting too high a resistance that would cause slow cranking too.

They are standard Bosch parts I think - sorry I don't have part nos. I had mine done a couple of years ago by a local specialist. He's also rebuilt my alternator.

On my 2.5 I just stripped mine cleaned out the tar that had been grease in a previous life and put it back together again.
Kept meaning to do it to the 2.7 but necer got round to it!

just mail them the bosch number off the motor and tell them what you want.

drive gear, brush box, end bush, and so on.
