You can ask the DVLA to release previously unissued plates which someone did for this plate, however they have to go to auction which this did last year.
I bid on it but it went for more than i was prepared to pay.
The buyer then put it up for sale and I left him an open offer which was much less than he advertised and less than i knew he paid, eventually he accepted and we did the deal in a day and it was on my car.
I'm pretty experienced with plates and this is much much less valuable than several plates I own so is a bit of fun but I'm pretty confident I will not lose value on it and as I plan to keep the BGTS for a while I will more than get my monies worth for it.
're the comments on generic model plates it's like anything and all about the right plate relating to the right car so not comparable at all to an X5 plate.

Interesting Jon, crazy that the guy bid and won it, about £4500? Then got rid of it for less! His loss.............
Most plates that are sold are worth 50% tops of what is paid, and then their resale value is 50% of that IMHO. A car related or non name related one has more chance of being wanted, always amuses me when someone with the initials like GHD thinks there are loads of people out there gagging for it! My basic A level maths recons there is about 14,000 initial combination (probably wrong) so the chance of ever finding someone for GHD like plates is lottery winning odds.
Some of the prices at the recent DVLA auction were confusing to say the least!

On another forum one guy keeps calling it a "chav" plate as if it will make a difference to me.
Luckily I’ve never lost money on a plate and I think a combination of paying the "right” price and the likelihood that 981 GTS will be seen as the end of an era car prior to FI (and the associated sound track) and so retain popularity will mean the funds are just sat in the plate rather than the bank. I don’t think I would have much trouble selling it for what I paid for it.
Anyway, its only money and if I get enjoyment out of it thats all that counts, I’ve made much more expensive mistakes !
