New GT4 Owner

Hi,

New to the forum - rejoined today!

I am (hopefully) getting a new GT4 in April/May 2021 and have been going through all of the usual configuration options.
I know the choice is great but it can give you a headache on what to option in or out!
Anyway my specification is mainly locked down BUT I need some advice on the dreaded seat question....
I know of all the pros and cons between full buckets and sport plus seats, so don't worry I am not asking about that.

My actual question is because I have a slim build (65 kg / 5'6") can you get any sort of seat liners / extra inserts / padding for the buckets?
I have tested the bucket seats and I slide about in them (actually less in the 18-ways as you can get the side bolsters quite tight),
and just wanted to know if anyone else has come across a solution. As if not, I might just save myself the money and go for the 18-ways....
yes I know re-sale issues / all the usual downsides / etc / etc.

I think your problem is pretty unique, I've not heard of anything you could buy. Maybe wrap yourself into a duvet before you get in the car???????

i know that you can get the inserts changed to a different material and change this to Tempur too. US company P1 designs does it but at a price. They do a lumbar support too. i am at the other side of the spectrum 105kg and 6ft so i cant help you further. Good luck with the purchase, I am in third year of ownership of previous model and love it.

Hello - Welcome to PCGB

Just a thought. The aviation world uses energy absorbing foam call Dynafoam. It's popular in the gliding world and resists general wear and tear. Not cheap but a high quality material. Have a look at this link https://www.afeonline.com/shop/dynafoam-energy-absorbing-seat-foam-25mm-1-inch-thick.html It comes in a variety of thicknesses and is designed to absorb a shock inpact, instead of your back. It can be easily formed to a seat shape (including a bucket seat in a car) is then covered with a suitable material.

I'm also a GT4 owner (981) but there is enough of "me" so I don't need extra padding for the bucket seats....

Ha ha - duvet cover might get a bit too hot!

I will probably try a kart seat insert or similar as a cheap fix.. ;-)

Hi Roderick,

Welcome back to the Club/forum?

Have you actually driven a car with LWBs, as that will be the acid test? I’m a similar build (63kg and 5’9”) and was comfortable in the seat when stationary, but unfortunately didn’t get an opportunity to drive in a friend’s car. Maybe the 18-way seat will be a better option, regardless of whether or not it’s the ‘correct’ seat for a GT car … after all, the most important criterion is to be secure and comfortable in your chosen seat regardless of where you driving.

From experience, just a note of caution if you choose the foam route. Foam is very difficult to cut and shape, so it’s best to get the professionals involved if you want to make a decent job of it. []

I am short and went for the basic seat which I know is not the investors choice but I was buying the Spyder for me to enjoy. I won't track the car. Also toppling out of the cars with buckets due to the higher bolsters was not a good look. Kitchens (Brian) has a foam wedge which he has found useful.

If you’re committed to the LWBs then probably it’s worth a punt for 30-quid. If it doesn’t work then you can fall-back on more expensive options.

Ha ha - I like the yellow on the GT4 actually - but, yes I prefer the stealthy look!

BTW - I do have contrast stitching! ;-)

Very black Roderick! All you need now is to tick the black wheels and calliper options for the full set. [] Red stitching, belts and wheel marker would lift the interior a bit, but it’s all additional expense and it’s so easy to get carried away ticking boxes. Good to see that you’ve included cruise control (a must-have feature these days), climate control (a ridiculous cost option on an £80k car!) and the smoking package (I hope the dealer’s going to waive the ridiculous £38 for that!), and I’m sure that you won’t be disappointed by selecting the 18-way seats given your sizing concerns with the LWBs (forget about possible sniping from the PH posse … it’s your car and you need to be comfortable).

Hope the ordering and delivery processes go smoothly for you. When do you anticipate receiving the car?

What can I say, most of my cars have been black - boring I know!

Looking at April / May hopefully.

I will ask for some freebies when I can go back into the dealership, the wife is insisting on it!! Ha ha.

Like it ... and would go more black i.e. door pulls if possible, hopefully the seat belts are black ?

Seats ... the more adjustment I have previously had, the worse the position turned out ! Always found the 2 way Sports Plus items OK but in a GT car it has to be the buckets

Climate ... have never needed the two zone as I`m a loner , had it in the previous Cayman S and found that having the passenger side cooler than driver`s had a negative impact on the system`s performance, why ?

The door pull handles are GT silver regardless unless you spec' yellow or red,

I actually wanted the Rev counter in black but not an option :-(

Seats - I had the 2 ways Sports Plus in a previous car and would of preferred more adjustment - so hopefully 18-ways will work out!

I was 50/50 on the two zone but for the rare occasion when I have the wife as a passenger then it will be a life saver. ;-)

Similar build to the OP and it's just a shame they don't supply the folding buckets anymore as I always found them a perfect fit and comfortable. If I was looking for a second hand GT4/Spyder/Gt3 etc I would avoid any cars with the 918 style and would go standard sports seats if no folding buckets around
