New door seals, recommendations.

I have been driving my 944 as my daily at the moment as my normal car is off the road and with all the wet weather it has become obvious that I need a new pair of doors seals.
They are very cracked and dryed out, it sounds like you have the door open, that's how bad they are.
I haven't had to buy anything for the car yet, so can anyone recommend a good parts supplier apart from a main dealer?

Why "except a main dealer"? Usually for stuff like this a main dealer is best.

Mainly because I would rather support an independent supplier trying to earn a living in these tough times and of course getting better value for money for myself, nothing wrong with that is there?

I think the point lowtimer is trying to make us that the "main dealer" OPC will often be the cheapest for these kind of items and should be your first port of call, Porsche don't offer independents much in the way of discounts so many (but not all) items can be had cheaper direct from Porsche, independents can be good for oem quality items. Door seals however may only be available from Porsche.

Yes, you may get away with one of the sunroof seals or a boot seal from an aftermarket supplier, but good 968 door seals are going to be cheapest from an OPC, almost certainly.

AFAIK the door seals are only available from Porsche. Any independent selling them will be buying them in from there anyway so they will most likely be cheaper from OPC With the club discount.
I know what you are saying about buying parts from indies, but don't forget that it's also the case that if no-one buys parts for our cars from OPCs, they will stop stocking and manufacturing them. They have already done this for many front engined parts..........

Porsche 944 door seals are £74.35 we list OEM ones at £62.00. 968 ones are different and are only available Genuine at £75.85

I think from recent posts that the 968 door seals are quoted as the better solution for the 944 so maybe worth the extra for a better seal. Have a search for recent posts on door seals unless I have it mixed up with another non offical Porsche forum (TIPEC)

All prices plus or including VAT? £62 is not a bad price for the series two 944 seals, although 968 parts are way better, as series two parts were over the 924-derived seals.

All prices were plus VAT, only one 944 door seal from 1976 (924!) up to 1991. The 968 ones are probably thicker and better, a bit like the 993 ones people fit to 911 & 964's

Only one part number now perhaps, but without a doubt two different styles supplied on the cars. In the nineties I sold scores of later type door seals to 924 and series one 944 owners, all removed from series two cars.

thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated, I have saved the type911 website in my favorites, lots of good stuff on there, will be ordering a pair of seals as soon as I get paid.

Yep, true enough, if you think about a 1976 924, it wouldnt have had 944 part numbers on it! I think it has been a 944 number for over 20 years now though
