New 944 S2 Owner Looking for Advice

Hi all,

Just purchased my first 944 S2 over the weekend and I'm putting together a list of the work that I need carrying out on it. Of course top of the list is timing belt, rollers and water pump but this brings me onto the cam chain and guides. When do these need changing and does the complete chain need to be replaced or just the tensioner and guides? My car is a 1991 and has covered 63,000 miles, service history is patchy so just want to get everything boxed off really.

Also, what oil does everyone recommend?

Hello,

First thing is to remove the head cover and take off the tensioner to inspect the condition of the pads and the cam sprockets.
At only 62k miles there may be little wear but this can vary greatly from one car to another.

On the S and S2 the tensioner can be removed without removing the camshafts.
 
Yes the sprocket is part of the camshaft. when I first had mine I recalled a correlation between wear of sprocket teeth and chain from my motorcycling days, so just got them to just replace the cam chain and guide rail. In 2008 parts cost was £20.86 + £6.84!

(A loose chain wears out the sprocket teeth).

We did belts/rollers/water pump too...that was 97k miles...about 120k now.
 
Thank you for all your response's, very much appreciated. I've booked the car in for the end of the month to have the lot done as well as a full service. I'll know it's right then.
