Need a spare key Cayenne S MY2003

Hi Folks,

I'm Mark - member of for coupla years. Just bought Cayenne S MY2003 family wagon. Snag is - only one spare key. Obv dont wanna run the risk of losing it so need to sort a spare. Please can you advise....

1. I've rung OPC - they want ~ £300 to provide new spare (coded transponder and remote etc). Excessive price???

2. I can send off a photo of the key via a website and they'll cut it but this will only open locks and not start engine (i.e. no immobiliser transponder). £12.

3. Above website could provide a cut key with an uncoded transponder (£45). Question is would OPC then code it up if I provided the raw cut key? Or could somebody else (honest john) code it up? I was thinking they would need PIWIS to do this?

Cheers mate. I looked at keysinthepost (http://www.keysinthepost.com/actinic/ModernPorsche.html) and from their links, I've found a local supplier who can cut a key and code up a transponder in it. Total cash price £60. Sounds reasonable. Downside is although it will unlock car and start engine, apparently it will not be able to use remote central locking - but for £60 I'm happy enough with that.

A bit nervous about allowing them to plug anything into the car (when I had a 996C4 key done at OPC they had to plug something into its brain) but the guy says all he needs to do is use a "gizmo" to scan the frequency / code of my transponder so therefore will not have to plug anything into the car directly.

Apparently it's a 5 minute job. Going there tomorrow to do the deal. Sounds reasonable enough. Does sixty quid sound about right to you mate to supply, cut and code?

...just a quick update to say I've had a spare key cut and transponder encoded. "Penalty" is that it will only open the doors manually but the engine will start using the coded transponder (i.e. all works except the remote central locking and obviously it's not a Porsche crested key (no big deal) - just a standard black key.

The guy just scanned my key in a computer then we had to start the Cayenne using my key which he strapped a gizmo to which scanned two coded frequencies when the immobiliser was disarmed.

Plus side - £COST. £60 all in. Would have cost *significantly* more at OPC and considering this is only an "insurance" key in case we lose the main one, I'm well happy with £60.
