My sills

Hairyarse

Well I visited the body shop today to see what was lurking in my sills and I'm very pleased - no hidden nasties - only what could already be seen from the B-post vent.

They've cut out a section of the outer rear corner and inner too where there was a rust patch and a lump of filler and have new plates formed ready to weld in...

The surface rust you can see on the inside is what I could already see - inner sills are still all good. They will clean this up, zinc, paint and waxoyl it all. I'm more concerned though about the leg hanging out of my sill [:D]

They also had a good poke around the car and the only other area they found was on the NSF wing corner behind the front wheel. There was a small amount of filler covering a hole...

They will cut this out and weld in some new metal. Then all will be re-stone chipped, primed and painted body colour. I should have it back mid-week.

I can't wait to see it - it will look cracking! Will not want to sell it even more then but at least there's no nasties hidden lurking for the new owner to worry about.

Ad will be getting amended with new pics and price back up to £6k once it's all done [;)]

Well good news, I got the car back today and I'm extremely happy with it. They did a fair bit more work than planned with the minor wing edge repair and it looks like they've waxoyled/undersealed rear arches and underneath too (haven't had a proper look yet) but didn't increase the price at all, happy days! [:D]

I'll be updating my ad shortly and price will be £6k

The bad news is my glass appears to have detached itself from the boot lid [] New tailgate arriving either tomorrow or Tuesday so that will be sorted.

All in all that leaves really nothing wanting to be done on this car (touch wood! [:D]) It will be a tidy little turbo for someone [:(]

Looks a tidy job. Always a pleasure to deal with people who care about the work they do and go the extra mile to ensure the job is done well and the customer satisfied. If it doesn't break forum rules, they deserve a mention. We know where to get a job done well and they get the business.
You'll fall in love with the car again before you sell it!
Mick

You're right Mick, I am falling in love with it again but it has to go [:(]

I'll mention them - I don't think it's breaking any rules, mods are welcome to delete if it is. I used TG Couzens in Stamford 01780 482005

I'm very pleased with the work and it was extremely well priced. Rob Wright had a wing repair done by these guys a few years ago and it was seamless and you still can't make out the repair so it's good, long-term testament to their work.

I know now where I will get my MK1 Golf re-sprayed - once I eventually get it finished LOL

Lovely job, get some Dinitrol in there, a 2 litre (4 x 500ml) tins with a probe available on e -bay better than waxoil, very thin and gets right into the crevices and then goes off, circa £36 delivered.

To be honest Frenchy I've made a conscious decision to hold off doing this for a while, simply so any potential buyer can genuinely see that the inner sills are rust free. I don't want to cover them up so they can't see that. There's enough clear wax in there to keep it good and the new buyer can fill them to their hearts content [:)]

I echo Andy Watson's sentiments.

That really has transformed the look of the car IMO. It looked great before, but now it does look superb. You don't fancy keeping it? ;).

Cheers guys, it does look great in the flesh although odd to me at the same time as I'm so used to the black sills! [:D]

I do fancy keeping it Chas but sadly it's circumstances right now meaning I need to sell. I'm not desperate for it to sell though so will be holding out for a decent price and enjoying it in the meantime [8D]

Just got the wheels balanced today as noticed on the way to Brighton and back the fronts were slightly out, bar the tailgate swap which is now going to happen next Friday at Elliot's there's really nothing left to sort on the car now - real shame it has to go!

Replacement rear hatch now fitted - cheers Elliot [;)] It even opens itself now when you push the button! LOL

Dont tell him Andy - trade secret!!

no seriously alignment of hatch correctly before tightening bolts fixing it to roof panel does the trick (as long as struts are in good condition) and free movement of hatch hinges helps.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better with colour coded sills!!!

Stuart
