My first Porsche ...

ORIGINAL: bennyboy

Hi Drew, was hoping you would end up on here, this lot are a great bunch of guys and I would recommend you pop along to the next meet if you get the chance. Car is looking amazing! I always promised myself I would get it detailed (even asked for contributions towards the cost for my birthday present once!) but never got round to it - glad you have done so already. Can't make out in the pictures whether or not you sorted the drivers front wing already? Anyway, glad you're enjoying it, will be great to see your progress with it in the future...

Was gutted when I saw you and your Dad leaving my house - firstly having to say goodbye to mine, and secondly not getting a go in your Dad's uberwagon!

Oh, just one thing, I'm in Lincolnshire, not Lancashire - you southerners are all the same - get North of Watford and it's just North right?!

Hi Ben,

Haha, sorry about that! I did question whether Lancashire was correct when I was writing!... I knew that it started with an 'L' and ended in 'shire', - Lancashire is all I could come up with :)

Haven't had any work carried out on the car as yet. All I've done is to paint the bad bits on the sills with Hammerite Smooth black paint with it's so called 'rust preventative' solution, in the hope that things don't get any worse. We'll be looking at getting things done properly in the not too distant future. We'll also be getting the front 924 nose done at the same time.

Both myself and my Dad are really enjoying driving the car. It's just as much fun as my old Integra Type R was and more so. You just need to adopt a new driving style to get the best out of it.

I was just as sad when I saw my old car being driven away...

Take comfort in knowing though that your old car will be treated in the same way. And I'll keep this thread updated with any new alterations/updates.

All the best.

Drew

Hi Drew, well the paint has made a big difference already I reckon. Wasn't sure if you'd had the wheels refurbed also? If not they've come up really well. Looking forward to following this thread then, am certainly delighted she's gone to a good home and am confident you'll look after her - enjoy!

Well I thought I'd post a wee update since purchasing the old girl back in July.

She's running beautifully at the moment, but that doesn't mean she hasn't had her problems!

The insurance policy restricted me and my Dad to 5k miles a year, however that had to be slightly re-adjusted :) - we can't stop driving the thing, especially me

Being a 23 year old car she still mixes it with the very best and in most cases wins. I've been attending multiple Pistonhead runs through last year, but last weekend's attendance was especially good.

Over 35 cars I believed turned up on Sunday morning at 6:30am as it was the first 'run' of 2012. We all were put into selected groups and headed off one at a time to enjoy a beautifully tailored route around Hertfordshire/North London.

Along for the ride was a professional automotive photographer who helped document the day's proceedings.

Most of the photos can been found here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=190&t=1118377&mid=74429&nmt=Sunday+RUN+photos.+Here%27s+a+selection - but most owners requested that their cars not to be posted online.

Here are my favourites of the day:

This was the highlight of the day - chasing down the 'SCUD'. To be sat behind one of things is a moment to behold... the noise it makes is phenomenal!!! Without sounding too arrogant :) , the owner couldn't believe/work out how I was keeping up!... I put it down to driver talent of course, but it just proves how well balanced a 944 is.

And finally, a pose for the camera 8)

Drew,
Looking good, great pictures, I missed the start of this thread last year good see Ben's car again and as always looking sharp.
If you can make it we are getting together at Rutland on Sunday, if you fancy a blast up the A1?

It could be because he was caught up behind the camera car? [;)][;)]

Haha - you maybe right. However the lead car was a tweaked E39 M5.

That is a gorgeous 944...do let me know if you ever decide to sell it ;-) The 968 looks lovely too - a match made in heaven you might say!

Black is the ONLY colour for these cars - red calipers on black always looks the business!

Good to see you using the car and looking after it,well done and keep up the good work.

Now on to the reason I have felt compelled to post. You need to change the heading on this post from "My first Porsche" to " The only Porsche I will ever need" seriously though would you honestly trade it for a newer car from the range? I don't think any of the current cars can give you as much as a well sorted 944.(obviously an S2 would have been a better choice). Our cars are so superior in terms of build quality and quality of the materials used as well as probably out lasting most of the current crop.Which do you think will be worth more in 15-20 yrs time a good 944 or a 996/97/91. I think you can guess what bthe answer to that one is.

[X(]...fights back the tears.....Hey Drew, the old girl looks so nice - even in that exotic company! Just shows how big todays cars have got, even the scud looks huge in comparison. Did you manage to pursuade santa to bring you the stage 2 kit for Christmas? And me? Well I'm sat here (albeit in our new house), considering paint colours and carpet designs, thinking the next porker is probably at least 3 years away...damn those early 996 C2s are sooooo tempting (after RMS fix of course!).

Hi Ben - I hope you're well!? Glad to hear you've finally managed to move.

Unfortunately a stage 2 kit will have to wait. I'm hoping to do a tour of Scotland at the end of May, so I'm trying to save as much money as I possibly can! Plus the car's fast enough at the moment as is - any faster and I think I'll get into serious trouble...

Have you driven a 996 before!? Too common and boring as hell... In three years time I'll sell the 944 back to you - how does that sound? :)

All the best.

Yeah I borrowed my mates Turbo for a while, which was rather rapid! But I prefer the standard C2, much less 'look at me'. And mine would be so much different to all the others out there - i.e. it would be as it left the factory, in black with Amber indicators, standard 17" wheels, but very low on KWs and some upgraded brakes - and then one day a supercharger perhaps? A proper sleeper! Am tempted to get another 944 but it would have to be a bit more standard than yours - well at least have all 4 seats to make it a but more useable. That mint looking red one with teledials for sale on pistonheads keeps calling me......
