My 996 engine story of the week

I have a thread started about my cheap 996.2 I brought a few months ago which needs a rebuild and this week I thought I had a big win. One of my suppliers at work ( I work for a aftermarket performance parts company) was delivering some stock and we got talking about cars like usual. I had my Boxster at work and explained I had brought a 2002 3.6 c2 as abit of a project. He then remembered that he had full running gear from a 3.6 997 around 2005 6 speed manual he purchased as a project himself. It was suppose to end up in a VW T4 van at some point. He told me that he just didn't have the time to do the work and was far more interested in his more conventional projects. The conversations move on to why don't I have it for my car. He shows me a picture and it is indeed full. A engine full PSE exhaust but i couldn't see the gearbox. The mileage was around 30000 and he could guarantee it was a running engine. My friend even checked the bores and confirmed it was good to go. . It was only removed from the original car because bizarrely the 996 it came from had an air-cooled 3.0 engine fitted to it(that is another project I need to explain another time!) Im getting very very keen on seeing this set up. My brain is working overtime, I investigated the 997 engine and with very little work It could be the one. I couldn't believe my luck. If the stars aline correctly I could get this motor potentially swapped over into my car for very little money or even once i move my broken engine on some money profit. He dropped it off to me to later in the week. and......
Its a 1999 3.4 throttle cable engine with a tiptronic attached to it! I was back to my original plan of collecting parts for the next few months and planing on getting my 3.6 rebuilt!

PS I haven't paid for anything he is a good friend of mine Ill likely be selling the set up on now :)

I can imagine how the excitement turned to disappointment as it was unloaded. I'm sure you'll find a buyer. It is relatively easy to drop a 3.4 into an early 2.5 Boxster, so thats another option perhaps?
