My 992 update

I thought I would write an update on my 992 problems to keep the forum momentum going.

I picked up the 992 after our holiday last week after the engine mounts replacements. They replaced both the active mounts, these hopefully have been modified and not liable for failure.

Whilst there, I requested that the coasting mode be checked out. They confirmed it is functioning, but it has different operating characteristic to the 991. It is a bit of a waste of time having this function in my opinion.

The gear change on the PDK when the oil is cold seems to be less harsh, they think it could have been attributed from the engine mount problem.

Porsche connect.

This is an ongoing problem, which has now been passed on from the Porsche connect team to the software developers.

I have spent hours on the phone and completing various test to help the team in solving the problem.

The problem is,

When using the web portal on my Porsche on the web, destinations can be sent to the PCM without problems, they will also appear on the Porsche connect app. When destinations are sent from the Porsche connect app, they don’t appear on the PCM or on my computer on the web portal. Randomly, it works.

The second problem is, which they think is related, the trip details on the PCM which is corrected does not get updated on the web portal my Porsche or on the Porsche connect app. It will only update the trip details correctly if changed to KPH from MPH on the PCM before leaving the car.
These faults have been on-going for months, I feel now why should I have to pay for a service which is faulty.

I would think this problem is similar on all 992 and not just related to mine.

Wow Huw, cap doffed for even discovering the issue! The Porsche Connect app has seen little use in my car, and I’m not sure I’d ever find the glitch you’ve uncovered.

I tend to agree that there are quality problems with recent new models, more than in the past, and OPC’s are not that pleased either. Having said that, I read somewhere that the 992 is proving such a sales success that production of other models is moving from Stuttgart. Perhaps chasing numbers is the root of the problem.

Those kind of problems are annoying. It reinforces my opinion never to buy a new model in the first year, I've had loads of issues before from Ford to BMW and the teething problems are always fixed after a year or the facelift at latest. I feel for you as you shouldn't have those things irritating you after buying a premium sports car.

Hi Hugh,
It certainly seems as though you have had your share of issues with your 992 which is a shame, but I guess this can happen when a new car is launched even if it is a Porsche.
To be honest as our car is not my daily driver, I have not really used the Porsche Connect facility since the car was set up when I collected it. Like Peter, I’m not sure I’d ever find the glitch that you have discovered, perhaps Porsche should recruit you as one of their testers... I shall look into this more when I get some spare time in case mine is faulty too.
The only issue that we have had to date is a really annoying squeak coming from the rear cabin of the car, which hopefully will be rectified when the car goes back to our Porsche Centre in a couple of weeks time.
We look forward to seeing you and Carole in October and hope that you soon get the issues with your car resolved.

Don't get me wrong, it does not put me off the car, a beautiful car to drive and so effortless. Just completed an R14 outing this afternoon went so well, although any spray of water on the road requested me to switch to wet mode. I am sure the IT side of things will eventually get sorted, as you will know I am always interested in the electrotechnical side of things.;

They are indeed beautiful cars to drive, because I don’t drive mine all the time, every time that I start it up and drive it out of the garage I smile like a Cheshire Cat.

Drove the 992 yesterday at the Porsche Experience Centre Silverstone, was so impressed, and what an engine, sounded good imo, and the acceleration was just savage. Love my 991.1 GTS but I am now seriously considering the 992 as my next car.

Of all the three cars, the one that gave me most driving pleasure was the 991.1 4GTS. Moving along with the time, the 992 suits me better as the every day car, since unfortunately we are a one car family (living in the city).

It is far more luxurious and suits our needs best.

Yes the interior of the 992 really is a nice place to be, I have been using my GTS more especially during the summer months, my daily is a BMW diesel, and the GTS still puts a smile on my face, love the sound and notion of having to rev the flat 6 all the way to the redline, but the 992 has made a real positive impression on me .
