My 911 Turbo is now 5 days old!

Cant undersatnd this reticense for 5 th at Fordwater? >yesterday in the little rs was grabbing it before the right and then going down to 4 th, b4 turning in to St Marys etc seemed to flow , only 3oobhp but admittedly fairly nimble [car, not me deary] on ordinary old Rossos moving around a treat !

Gary,

There is a catch, I' m insured on PCGB days thru RSA with only a £750 excess, hence the reluctance to do any other track days. I well know how fast Goodwood is, a Lambo fell of at the same place trying to get away from my BDR engineed 7 in 1991.

My C4S is on P Zero Corsa' s which generate as much grip as the Cup Sports when they are warm.

Vic,

No your right I' ll try 5th before Fordwater when I' m there in August.

Regards

Oh and they are a lot cheaper. EG - Silverstone GP, Brands GP, Oulton Park, Donington all for £197.00/day and there is not a catch!

Gary,

Why are your days significantly cheaper? I have noticed that PCGB days are as expensive (or even more) as the commercial opertors and I just assumed the margins were pretty small and the PCGB days had less cars at them, so more track time. Is the Club making more money than they ought to out of track days? I assumed the Club ran them on a more or less non-profit basis, but it would seem that I am wrong.

Richard

Richard,

Correct, you are WRONG.
Your club made a substantial profit from its track day programme last year.

What a wheez. You pay for club membership and then pay extra for the privilege. Please explain this concept to me as I am a bit thick! Economics obviously not one of my strong points.

Is this true? Are there some accounts or similar that prove this?
I had also assumed that it was more or less run at cost. Why should track days be used as a revenue stream?

Perhaps there is some reasonable justification or hidden extra cost, but I thought that events were (or should be) self financing.

Enclosed with PP a couple of months ago there was a financial report. This gave a breakdown of income and expenditure for everything. You should be able to get all the info from that.

I had a chat with Steve Kevlin in April about the prices of the track days for PCGB members and I have to say that I didn' t really get a very positive responce, maybe a few other people making representation to Steve about cheaper track days for members might have some effect.

Our chairman, David Newton is aware that some PCGB members are not keen on paying OTT prices for track days. However a large number of people obviously are happy to pay the price otherwise the Goodwood and Castle Coombe days would not go so quickly.

Which camp do you sit in? Happy to pay through the nose?

Any chance of you track day fanatics finding a wider and more general forum to pursue this particular argument in? General discussion area seems most appropriate as that' s where most contention seems to live!
John

Dear Dr.John,

Sorry about that. Thread did go off at a tangent.
At least it makes the turbo forum look alive.

Where are all the turbo owners. This should be one of the busiest parts of the forum. That' s why I dip into it. Will try not to get carried away next time.
Thread complete. Finito.

Thanks Gary - much appreciated...
As for where are all the Turbo owners? It' s a very good question; and if you are concerned, just think how I must feel as the Turbo Register RS.
Part of the answer is undoubtedly that as a Register which spans 1974 to the present day, we have a widely varying demographic, especially in relation to wealth and aspirations, and hence interests.
Any ideas which will benefit the Register as a whole are welcome, as indeed will any which specifically relate to the growing range of models that the Register covers - 5 at present. A good start would be volunteers for Assistant Register Secretaries to cover the 964, 993 and 996 variants.
Regards
John
