My 2022 Cayman GTS

Thanks Jeff.

To be honest the cost of fuel is stupid wherever you go and the cost would still be the same whether I had the 2.0 or 4.0. It’s still £99 to fill up. I’m quite happy with the mpg return especially for a 4ltr.

plenty of man maths had been done before the purchase. Road tax is the same, well given the recent increase, monthlies are quite a bit less as the residuals are very good and the insurance is only £100 a year more expensive.

Pleased to report the ac issue has sorted itself out and is now iceberg cold

Dan

1400 miles in now and everything is loosening up nicely. A good run to Porschemerion at the weekend saw 200 miles added and some spirited driving (well as much at 50mph can give you) saw plenty of smiles from me when on the twisties through Snowdonia.

I must say the Pirelli PZ4s are much quieter than the PS4S I had on the base and I'm quite impressed with the handling but I'm no racing driver so some may have other views. My only concern is the small or lack of rim protection on the rears but I can live with that.

No rattles or squeaks up to now and fuel economy from Sundays drive was a respectable 31mpg average.

Haven't used Sport mode yet and I think I'll leave it til I'm a little closer to the 1800 mile marker before I do that. I do try and push up to 4000 rpm and may now start to push over that. Brakes are amazing and have great feel under foot. Throttle response is very different to the turbo I was used to in the 4 pot. You really do need to rev it out to get some good acceleration unlike the 4 cylinder where, after the initial lag, you were most definitely pushed into the seat. The noise is still phenomenal.

Dan

It does have the central radiator. Not sure what you mean by opens but there are no opening or closing vents on it.

Dan.

Thank you

With the 981 GT4

When not in Sport mode ... water and oil temperatures run at an elevated level to optimise engine operating efficiency

When in Sport mode ... a valve / valves open which `brings in` the central radiator reducing the temperatures

In Sport, my temperatures run 10`- 15`C lower ...

1450 miles in and oil level has dropped to half. Added 120mls and it took it up by a notch. I’ll add about another 50mls at some stage that should take it up to full but I’m in no rush.

Hi Dan, mine needed refilling at 1800 miles and the car has been driven softly. How are you finding the 20mm drop?

20mm drop is excellent Jase. No issues with speed humps or inclines up to now. Tyre pressures set to comfort (30psi) and the ride is just as good, if not better, than my previous Cayman with PASM fitted with PS4S’. If your oil level is on half then about 200mls should take it back to max however, take it slow and add in small quantities and check after each add. I added 60, 60, 40, 20, 20mls and it’s now on max.

Dan.

The OPC is not too far from me, I just asked them to refill it and sort it out. Worth keeping a litre in the garage though. I have a few close scrape issues going from my drive into my garage, going to buy two speed bumps to level out the change in height.

I found that the comfort tyre pressures were truly awful. Maybe a small improvement in ride (which is not necessary) but the loss of precision and steering feel ruined the car, for me at least.

My guess is that Comfort Pressures are only really for Americans

Hi Dan,

How easy were the Zunsport Grilles to install and how do they compare to the RGS version for the Base Cayman?

Could you also upload a photo of the whole front end so I can see the overall look of the Zunsports?

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark

Zunsport grilles are super easy to install with little/no risk of scuffing the bumper. Not sure about the RGS grilles on the GTS bumper but you had to be careful fitting them on the base models.

Thanks Dan for the additional photo's, copied them in to Photo's on computer, much easier to see the detail.

Do the Zunsports have a frame around each piece of mesh?

Mark

Yes they do. The quality is excellent. All I would say when fitting is bend the fixing tabs back a little more than they are when you get them. That way they will be well clear of your plastics less chance of marking them. They are easy to move and push into place with a screwdriver as per the installation instructions.

Dan

Beautiful car Dan.! - I'm really tempted to fit some Zunsport grills to my Cayman GTS 2.5. The radiators certainly look more vulnerable than my previous 987.2 Boxster S? I'm just worried that Porsche may not warranty any potential issues with the AC condensers if the grills are fitted?

Love my GTS but do miss the noise of my flat6 Boxster..

Ed

The only issue I can foresee Ed would be corrosion due to leaves etc gathering in the lower corners of the intakes but if you clean them out before hand and make a habit of doing so again once a year I don’t think you’ll have any issues. The main concern is damage from a stone strike and it puncturing the condenser. The fitting of the grilles should reduce the possibility of that happening but there’s always that risk.

Yes, its something I do after a clean, which is usually every week - I know from experience of my Boxster, a new AC condenser and fitting aren't cheap, and that was through an indie..It is strange, that on all Porsche GT cars, there are grilles factory fitted, but not for any of the GTS or base model range..? My assumption is that Porsche assume GT cars will be used more on track, therefore potentially more vulnerable..
