My 2022 Cayman GTS

Didn't have these on my car and received it last week. I may make up a set in a darker grey so they aren't quite so bright :)

How quickly a year flies by. 6500 miles in and a litre of oil (I'm not even going to estimate the fuel costs) and it's insurance time.... and tax!

Just had my renewal quote through from Admiral of £845! Nope, not paying that. Best comparison quote site was £690 with esure so I called Admiral. Renewal quote was instantly reduced to £728 and when I mentioned I'd got a better quote, reduced again to £641 and change. I'll take that. Also, with all the faf on PPF, I wanted to make sure it was carried over from my current policy. Yep. They said it's not a declarable mod from their point of view but have put a note on my renewal so all bases are covered.

Here's to another 12 months of lovely motoring.

Dan

Nice one Dan! I can't believe I've had my GT4 3 years - it's just had its first MOT and I've put 3yrs extended warranty on it. Not that I plan to keep it for a long time you understand...

Hope to see you around somewhere soon?

Crikey. 3 years!. How much was the extended warranty if I may ask? I think i read somewhere it's about £1800 on the Caysters

Dan

The current prices are £690 for 1yr, £1,250 for 2yrs and £1,870 for 3yrs. There's no 111-point check required if you renew before your current warranty expires. That's for all Caysters, including the GT4 and Spyder. I wouldn't normally bother with extended warranties, but with so many electrical bits in particular that can go wrong on the latest cars I thought I'd give it a shot this time just in case - especially as I'll be hooning it around a few tracks this year...

Good shout. In honesty, I don’t think £1800 is expensive for 3 years of peace of mind. it’ll be something I’ll be considering when the time comes.

No, I agree it's not bad at £635 a year if you buy in bulk and are planning to use an OPC for servicing anyway like I was.

I`m also coming up for three years with mine, I took the one year warranty option last November as was unsure if it would be staying. It will be *eight* come this November, it is staying ... I would not run it without the warranty

Re. the warranty conditions - non OPC work ... I recently spoke with Reading HQ and my local OPC service team , I`ll post up the details in a more relevant thread

Small update

Currently at 7568 miles. No issues. Have had to top up the oil a couple of times but a word to those that need to do the same, add a small amount at a time and then check. 250mls will move the level up about 1 notch but check before adding more. I have had to get a replacement front wheel arch liner as His Majesty's road network decided to tear the flap on the front one. fortunately that's all the damage there was and not too expensive at £65. It also gave me a reason to take nearly all the wheel arch liners off (you can't take the rear most liners off unless you remove the bumper) and clean the crud from behind them. I intend to do this every spring and the amount of gravel and mud that came out was ridiculous. I've also done the exhaust valve collar mod which gives a nice balance of sound between 2000 and 4000 rpm. Great mod for less than £10. The notorious engine ticking has gone. I suspect it may well be related to fuel but who knows as I've not used ethanol added fuel for some time (Esso is claimed to have no ethanol). I've also done an injector clean using Bg44K. Tyres check today whilst washing and the Pirellis are holding up well showing 6mm allround at the time of writing. A quick photo after todays wash. God I love Aventurine.

Your Cayman GTS in Aventurine looks superb Dan.

It was going to be the colour of my new GTS, but due to Porsche stopping this colour on the Cayman/Boxster, I have opted for my second choice of Gentian Blue.

Due to take delivery around second week of June. Can't Wait!

Mark

Looks like Aventurine Green is back on the configurator folks.

Maybe Porsche have listened to the masses??

Dan

Update time.

10252 miles in and all is well however, I've noticed that the oil temps are now fluctuating between 95-98C where they used to be stable at 102C. The oil temps do rise when pressing on up to ~104C. I've raised my concerns a couple of times with my OPC and my service guy says that sounds normal and isn't anything to worry about. He also said that the oil system on the 718 is pretty clever and takes into consideration ambient temps and a couple of other factors. I spoke to a friend of mine who has a 997 C2 and he says that it may be an over sensitive oil temp sensor and suggested unplugging the battery for a minute or so then reattaching. There were a couple of things I did prior to the 'issue' and that was fill with fuel and top up the oil plus I've been using it more often to go to work in so maybe the GPF doesn't need to regen so often but I'm probably just plucking that one out of the air.

There have currently been lots of reports on Rennlist of the 4.0 having a sudden loss of oil pressure resulting in the engine grenading itself. Most are pre '21 build cars however there are a couple that are '22/'23 builds with really low mileage of ~2-3000 miles. Porsche NA have just been replacing the engines. Concerning and worth keeping an eye on if you have a 4.0. Re oil consumption, according to my 'man memory' I've added just under 2ltrs of oil in the 10,000 miles. The car hasn't asked for it I've just added a little bit when the gauge gets to around half.

Tyres are holding up well and have 5mm on the rears and 6 on the fronts with an even spread over the width of the tyres. Tyre pressures I prefer at the 'comfort' setting of 30 psi all round. I did try and up them to 32F and 33R but found the ride a little too harsh for my liking plus pressures build to 35 and 36 once they get warm. I think I'll switch to MPS4S when the time comes unless the MPS5S are available then but overall I'm pretty happy with the ride and wear rate of the PZ4 just not the rear rim protection which is seriously lacking.

I'm probably going to attempt to change the air filters at some stage as I've seen some YouTube videos of air filters on the 718 at 10k miles being pretty dirty and they're not that expensive even from an OPC. The faf is taking half the boot apart.

Brake pads are sat at around 7mm front and rear. I've read that many in the US are changing to Hawk ceramic pads on the 4.0 as they give a lof less brake dust and have the same pedal feel as the OEM pads. I've found a supplier in the UK but they aren't cheap at £250 for a set of fronts and £225 for the rears.

No other issues, I'm pleased to report (goes to find some wood).

Dan

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading this thread - I’m currently at an airport waiting for my flight to board and this was a pleasant way to pass the time. Your car looks incredible.

Cheers

Ash

Sounds good Dan, glad to hear the car's doing well! Mine has now done 15k and I used a similar amount of oil to you, topping up when the car asks for it, so it sounds normal for these engines. I thought it might tail off as the miles increase but my use has stayed about the same (although that might be down to track use).

I've also seen the engine failures on Rennlist but I don't think there's much you can do about it other than keep up the warranty if you can, which is worth doing anyway...
