MSV openpit lane testing sessions

Hurrah! MSV have just launched open pitlane test sessions. Brands Hatch 225 pounds for OPL - that's got to be good value! [:)]

Snetterton is even better at £175.00. Have to say with novice, marque, road car only, op test days etc etc they are offering sessions for all tastes.

I have just returned from doing an MSV road car only day at Brands Indy. Two sessions - novices and not novices. 30 mins at a time. Only about 10 cars in the "not novice" session so plenty of space. Very good marshalling - lots of blue flags when I came up behind folk (and the odd occasion when people came up behind me!).

Don't know if it is typical for a road car only day to be that quiet, but if you want a non-crowded day then might be worth checking this out with people in the MSV office.

Interestingly, paddock was filling up at the end of the day for an evening session which looked ike it was going to be very busy.

Cheers

David

Interesting news indeed, suprised its so quiet. Having spoken to MSV, be warned if you pitch up in a track prepared car they may take a dim view of it. For example, they wont let my stickered up road registered, MOT'd Caterham on a road car only day - which is fair enough (sort of), and they were non-comittal about the RS clubsport as it looks like a race car albeit currently without stickers.

On a related note, I've just booked testing at Snett for next friday 4*30mins sessions for £165, making the open pit lane test days cracking value. Tradgically scheduling meant we had no choice.

...albeit currently without stickers.

Sounds like you have plans Hugh?

Always have plans, its whether they come to life! I keep thinking the car has to be raced really - but am unsure where. The obvious choice is AMOC intermarque, which actually looks very clean and good fun. With some exciting cars in it. Also there is a good knowledge of clubbies/cups being raced there.

but will only do a few rounds (if at all ) next year.

Blaine - are you at Snett friday then? Arent club MSV there on Sat racing?

The MSV "Open Pit Lane Testing for Saloon and Sports Cars" is for race cars. That wouldn't exclude road cars though. Bear in mind these are test days run under "racing regs" so no passengers are allowed, including instructors. Overtaking will be free, i.e. on either side and in corners, and without consent!

I can remember when test days were always "open pitlane" and there were no restrictions on what cars were allowed, so you had single seaters and sports/saloons mixed... which was potentially very dangerous because the single seaters were so much quicker than saloons but almost invisible to the saloon driver when the single seater was behind him. When you came up to overtake a saloon in, say, your Formula Ford, you had to be very cautious because you didn't know whether he had seen you or not.

I'll never forget testing at Oulton one day in 1981 with my Royale RP24 FF1600 and amongst a few others, sharing the track with Jim Crawford in his F1 Ensign. I knew Jim, so when he came out to warm up the F1 car and I was already up to speed having already been out for probably 10 laps, as we arrived at Fosters (we were on the short circuit) I dived up the inside and overtook him, only for him to follow me to Druids and then on the run to Lodge he pulled alongside, looked over, put two fingers up to me, and then nailed the DFV and pissed off rather quickly! LOL

Tim - Mallory occasionally do still mix the two if its really quiet. Of course you are right about race cars, but many of us have Cup / NGTs, which are effectively race cars anyway. Lack of passengers is minor hinderance I guess. But the driving experience is far superior.

Sunday is raceday for us, with the MSV trackday trophy. We'll be up there from Saturday afternoon, so if anyone is mooching around and you see a black & white golf no.54 come over & say hello [:)].

I'm sure they'll be gentle [:D]. You sure to get some of these guys as they are racing Sat/Sun as well

GT Cup Championship
SPEED
Trofeo Abarth 500 GB
Sports and Sports Racing

I think its more the other way around. Trying to find a way past on the inside the Corum [][]

Be good to see the SPEED cars out - they are always exciting to watch.

h_______ Was yours one of the 'Martini' cars at Brands the other week?

Is that the way to describe his overtaking???

"Any time, any place, anywhere,
There's a wonderful world we can share,
It's the right one, the bright one,
It's Martini"

Well that didnt go as planned, 2 laps, 1 blocked oil way, 1 *very* broken engine. [].[:(] 5 days to Spa. Rest of day spent sourcing and replacing, thankfully now fixed (one rather slim wallet!.

Club motorsport - who would bother! [:(] Lets hope the Porsche is in better fettle! [;)]

My day at Oulton in the RS2 didn't go so well either, questionable previous gearbox repair and incorrectly reassembled clutch left me on the grass after no 4th, 3rd or second coming out of Island into Shell Oils --- never coasted round Shell Oils before [;)]

Still, at least the grass absorbed all the free clutch fluid [:)]

A shame really because it was going so well ...

Another Next Time, after replacing the cooked brakes on the GT3 MkI "Last Time" ...

Sounds like we've both had a tale of woe. Although, I'm thinking my lunched engine might be cheaper than your g'box!! [:-]
