The hardest job steve has to do is manage race drivers egos and personal thoughts on how it should be run.
He is just having one of his funny moments!!

Des what are you on! you have to be a serving board member first.
The hardest job steve has to do is manage race drivers egos and personal thoughts on how it should be run.
I asked the question and received the following answer From Paul Seagrave.
So for the avoidance of doubt to be on the board of motorsport you neeed to be elected to the main board and then if your fellow directors consider you to merit being on the motorsport board you will be appointed. However if someone were to be of benefit to Motorsport through their profesional qualification or experience as are/were Steve Kevlin and Geoff Turral the Board may also appoint them at their discression.
I am not having any issue with the current M/Sport Board, I am as a membe rmaking a suggestion and putting a fellow member forward for future consideration of the Club who I feel will make a good contribution, more importantly encouraging new competitors into the Club Racing etc .... that's all, not sure why you are defensive? Embrace Paul new blood if it's good is good.

I am simply suggesting that if there is a vacancy which may or may not be now or in the future. Then the Club should consider someone such as Paul Ward to co opt. I personally think he would bring a new dimension to the Board particularly with his passion and experience coming up from the roots starting with Track Days and no a semi seasoned racer.
For Motorsport to flourish in the long run more drivers are needed, we have say 12000 members owning a practically out of the box track car .... As I say we need to feed the bottom end, recruiting younger or new drivers firstly into Track Days and then developing into racing ... Like the first time buyers feeding the property chain. Maybe someone like Paul could have this kind of role.
Probably start things rolling with a One/Half Day Seminar at Cornbury House. How to get started, kit, car, licence, medical, equipment, cost, rules, health and safety, how to enter, taster race day etc etc ... I think it will be full. As opposed to be handed a book and fend for youself.
This is only a suggestion ....

Not defensive des, just because its challenging your thoughts. know one is saying you have any issues[
Who is Paul Ward des,and why should he be co opted,co option has got the club in enough trouble in the past already
Steve gets regular well why dont we do it this way,he does know in the main what works, one of my concerns with so many of the now General board of directors who are on the motorsport board,is how much input will be with true passion for motorsport, and not frighten off any more volunteers.
Alot of suggestions steve gets is from people who do very little motorsport or track days,we have had open days for motorsport and talks about what its all about. Its a great idea and works a bit ,but in reality very few came and few actually went on to do anything with in motorsport.
The best grass roots for club motorsport is the speedchamps and what was class 4 of the open, which has sadly since disappeared, of which you have Porsche to thank for that among other things, and now may be class 3 of the club champs, which will frighten most beginners off.
If you want a club open day for motorsport lets do it,but not sat around a boring table talking about it,lets hirer the stow circuit designed by John Watson to teach new comers and experienced people as to what its all about.I would happily give a weekend to it.
As with the now annual fully subscribed Novice Track Day, I had to beat on with SK until finally we had an eve session, while the day was near empty the evening two hour slot was over subscribed. You should have seen the smiles and fabulous feedback.
I think a novice on Track race session a great idea but many as in the driving test would like the exam room, who knows worth a shout either way.
Paul Ward is racing in class2 in a 944 .... his 2nd Year also a member of the 964RS Register.

some good motorsport for you
check out gt2 bhp against modern chassis/grip and some great traffic driving later on
I kicked this off because I have always found large numbers of people who really enjoy being taken reasonably swiftly around a decent circuit (I am yet to be fast --- and maybe only in my dreams).
But the first step is enthusiasm and Motorsport (in my view) have been notably lacking in sharing this !!
We need the widest possible funnel to build the numbers of people who are willing to participate at any level.
For example, I would love to justify more norther PCGB track days.
Croft and Oulton are the only two this year and they both need to be a rip roaring success --- so who is bulling them ?
We could put together at least half a dozen really interesting cars, driven by people who are very happy to share the experience and show newcomers how to pick up and go their own way.
Who will share in this ?
I'd think it could be a combination of sitting in a room with a coffee whilst someone 'presents' the necessary background/regulations/licence/paperwork bit - then what would be of real benefit would be a detailed 'walk round show and tell' with a current race car or two - while someone shows what needs to be done to a standard car to bring it up to Speed Championship or other competition regs.
- Showing/discussing modifications needed or otherwise - belts/cage/seats/fuel or electrical cut-offs/etc.
- Tyres/noise regs.
- Clothing/equipment - helmet/race overalls/etc.
- Brakes/suspension/etc.
Would be interesting to see what needs to be done with a race car vs similar road car.
I know everything can be researched and read in the relevant regulations and handbooks, but nothing beats actually seeing it and being talked through it in the right environment and being able to discuss it and ask questions.
