Monthly Meeting - November

Fred Hindle

New member
Hello All,

It is that time again when the brains are taken off the shelf, dusted down and inserted (hopefully the correct way up) and taken to the meeting for a bit of excercise. Due to the raffle etc. the quiz will not be the usual sixty questions but only forty. The more astute amongst you have deduced that is twenty less than normal! The two rounds will have themes, for the first, the answers will all start with the same letter of the alphabet, the second will probably have a medical theme (any doctors of medicine in attendance will have to declare a vested interest). Anyone bringing copies of the Lancet will be asked to refrain from using it to glean answers.

Can anyone remember who won the Wooden Spoon at last year's quiz?

See you there.

Cheers,

When have your brains ever been inserted the right way up,Fred[:D]-awful grammar starting a sentence with "Due to"-does a Wife who's a Radiographer & Daughter/Husband both Consultants-give me a problem with the Hindle (Swindle) rules?[&o]

Looking forward to the challenge though-took me 4hrs to do the Math re' the question nos-hope the questions aren't so taxing!

Awful grammar - pot and kettle comes to mind there!

Here are some examples of sentences beginning with 'Due to' I found on t'internet :-

Due to the fact that he doesn't speak English and I don't speak French, we had a difficult time communicating.

Due to an outbreak of the flu, many students are absent today.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, there will be no holiday bonuses this year.

Hope you reached the same answer as I did regarding the number of questions. I posted at 10:26 and you replied at 11:42, I think you are winding your sundial up too much![:D]

Cheers,

Well -grammar is a noun & -awful -is an adjective so can't see a problem-& the internet is not always correct-however you are not taking time zones into account ,Fred-there again-a little exaggeration between friends isn't a waste of time surely?

Owing to the fact that my interest in clocks is limited to mechanical devices ,I admit to having failed to change the hour to Wintertime on both my sundial & burning candles but the seconds are still out on both matters.[8|]

I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate!

I'm afraid your problem with grammar is a spacial one! (And no I didn't mistype 'special')[:D]

Cheers,

Bong-I had always spelt Spacial with a "T"-a la -Spatial-& that is not Petial with an A with an added S.

Actually 'spacial' is a variant of 'spatial' [:D] As I found out. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/spacial

Cheers,

I'm really glad you've proved my Oxford English Dictionary wrong-I now have more spacial awareness,Fred.[;)]

As a bit of help to the R18 forum users - tonight's quiz answers all start with a letter of the alphabet. (Just don't tell any of the ordinary members about this clue. [:D]

Cheers,

Hello,

Just to let you know. The badges raised £65 for Cancer Research. Thanks to all who donated. The badges will still be available at other meetings and events.

Cheers,

I have been so humbled by David's glowing references in PP that it has stunned me into silence-makes a change I suppose (before Jeremy can say it!)
