Since my beloved turbo is back in good shape I cant stay out of it and any excuse to take it out and I'm away....[:D] Just a few snaps of the days craic. I took a notion on Saturday, got the all important permission/passout and off I went.. Great turnout of 944's and all turbos to boot. I am bad with names so here goes, Paul in the super rare Cab turbo, James from Cork in the 86 early offset turbo, John in the ex Promax mule turbo with vulgar power on tap and myself in the US spec turbo... All the same badge but different variations of the breed. Heres a few of the day

We all got a spin on the track as well which was a nice bonus... we all had a good day !

that looks like a great day had by all Donal, I miss those days.. looking forward to getting back into it..:)

When you say ex-promax car, is that Andrew's old 422bhp car? i know it went to Ireland but lost track of it since.

Pete

Hi Donal looks like a very good day out!

Not seen a Fuego in hours , but that was the first for years!

Their wiper hole is in a different place from ours, just noticed.

You are right there Mike.. A lot of Fuegos and 18's were total rust buckets.. Someone cared enough for that one to totally waxoil and cavity fill it from new.... ! That one is a Turbo as well.... When I first got my 944 the boys at work were trying to wind me up by saying thats a nice Fuego [:D]

Thats the very one Pete.. John bought the car about '04 .. He comes on here an odd time 422bhp944 or sommit along them lines.. John had to rebuild the engine after a track day in '04. He ran the car on slicks and due to oil starvation the crankshaft got damaged.. He built it up using a 3.0 S2 crank and a load of trick bits. The car has been totally bombproof since. It was a joy to watch it on track.. The sound it makes as well is musical... What a car.... [;)]

It certainly is a powerful car, I've been a passenger in it during a PCGB track day at Castle Coombe. A mixture of the car and Andrews first class driving saw us overhauling the field. Unfortunately she blew the HG just as we were about to dispatch a couple of 993's, fun days.
Regarding the oil starvation issue, this is more common than you might think and something that Porsche were aware off. The problem is the entrained air that builds up in the rotating mass of oil clinging to the crank, this causes the oil starvation. Not helping is the block design that has the feed in such a place that the oil supply to No.2 rod bearing gets severly impeded. This and all of the air bubbles in the oil causes the bearing to fail. Hope that all makes sense, the proper terminology is out there for those interested.

Anyway I'd recommend John to fit a crank scraper, especially for a serious track car, it will greatly reduce the risk and give him a slightly more powerful car to boot.

Pete

It's good to hear that John still has it and uses it as intended. Andrew last took me round Silverstone in it before the final 422bhp mods were done and it was still mighty fast back then
