Mixing Michelin PS4 and PS5 or Goodyear Efficient Grip performance 2 or other viable alternatives?

I'm struggling to find tyres for my 944; 225/50/16 rear and 205/55/16 front. The choices seem to be PS5 on the rear and PS4 on the front, or Goodyear Efficient Grip performance 2 all round. The pirelli P0 rosso only seems to be available in the 205 size now apart from at ludicrous prices at Longstone.
Has anyone got experience of mixing the PS4 and PS5, or the Goodyears which seem to be more of an econobox tyre.
Any other suggestions welcome.

I don't see any problem mixing tyres, as long as you keep the same across an axle. So two PS5 rear, and two PS4 front, but they will be mismatched in performance, grip etc (even if it is only negligible).

I'm having the same problem sourcing matching tyres even in 17", lots of the manufacturers are reducing production of performance tyres in smaller sizes.

I'd steer clear of Pirelli after my previous (and others) experiences, they just aren't up to the standards of Goodyear and Michelin.

Some of the sub brands have come a long way, Kumho, Falken etc. Yokohama used to (may still be) a supplier of tyres to Porsche, do they do anything in 16".

The Nankang NS-20 are supposed to be a reasonably good performance tyre.

Thanks, I'm also finding big discrepancies in whats listed online compared to what's actually avaialble. I've found a local place that can get the goodyears, so I'm heading in that direction I think.

I’d probably choose the Michelins if the car is driven enthusiastically, even with PS4 front and PS5 rear. Has anyone compared that setup directly with the Goodyear EGP2?

I've used Michelin PS2 tyres for years, I found out that they're not all created equally though. Different car manufacturers have different requirements, so to ensure I bought 4 tyres the same spec, I ordered N rated. I've also found that around 6 years old the performance is decreasing, regardless of the tread depth, and that probably applies to most performance tyres. Going forward I'll look at Conti's and Goodyears, and probably change them earlier.

Think the original post was about 16" tyres though, I don't think Michelin PS2 have been available for some time in that size (if ever).

So it was, I was thinking about brands really. I got a new set PS4S tyres on my Yaris when I bought it. The car had only done 3k miles, Toyota said they changed them due to age....

I was running 17" PS2s on my 987 and had to use the dreaded puncture repair gloop yesterday so now shopping around for replacements. My local dealer said the newest he could find in 235/50/17were 2018! Maybe it's time to change brands. What are you folks using? I'm not really a fan of Pirelli so thinking maybe Continental.

Just had a look on Black Circles and didn't see any full set of the same tyre in 968 17" size. As I'm going to need a set soon, I'm wondering if availability will only get worse/more expensive in the future?

For Michelin sizes and availability, I've found Costco the most helpful with them being linked to Michelin's systems to advise Michelin's current stock and batch dates. You can ask Costco without having to buy from them.

Michelin advised that for lower volume tyres, such as used by older Porsches, the tyres are produced in batches rather than continuously and they produce the next batch when existing stock has rundown.

I'll check the reviews, thanks. I guess the other option is to look out for a set of those 18" 911 wheels that WUF had fitted.

Vredestein make Sprint+ in those sizes. I have Vredestein Sprint Classic on my TR6 and find them very good.

I had an email from Michelin today, advertising their money off promotion. Put the tyre sizes I'll want into the search on their website, and it came back with nothing available .

For Michelin's, shows sizes available but as PS4 front and PS5 backs (screenshots attached) - but that's not the same as in stock.

The Michelin website is not fit for purpose and gives different results depending how you search !!!

My other option when I was looking was to go to a 245/40 17 on the rear which opens up a whole host of other tyres - including Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6, Michelin PS5, Continental Sport Contact 5 (may no longer be available).
