Misfire woes !

just had my first set back in my short Porsche ownership.
Had some family around for Christmas, and as the sun was shining suggested a ride out in the new car !
Car started perfectly, reversed off the drive, and set off.
100 yds up the road and the Check engine light came on and the car started running rough.
Returned home immediately, and after reading codes have got a misfire on cylinder 3.
i will have a look tomorrow, hoping it’s just a coil pack ?
Not quite the Christmas I had planned ??

Indeed, not a great Christmas present but I would put a small wager on the coil pack. Assuming it is get them all done as the others won't be far behind!

Fingers crossed!
Think I’ll go out in the garage today and swap coil 2 & 3
see if the fault switches to cylinder 2, that will confirm coil.

Update
Just removed the heat shield, and coil pack on cylinder 3.
I am not going to the trouble of swapping them over to see if the coil is at fault as it is visibly cracked.
I have ordered a complete set of new coils and will be doing the plugs while I'm in there, and replacing the heat shields ( mine have had it ! )
I will update once the job is complete - think parts will be here for Monday

That looks pretty knackered, fingers cross the replacements will sort the misfire.

Watch the heat shield bolts the heads twist off easily, give them a bit of heat and let them soak with penetrating oil if possible, had to redrill one of mine.

Thanks for the heads up.
I already took one off to investigate the misfire / suspected coil pack failure and luckily it came straight off with no issues (apart from being corroded to dust ), but will bear this in mind for the drivers side.

Well, after a few hours of struggle - mainly with drivers side rearmost cylinder, all spark plugs and coil packs have been changed along with new heat shields.
Job completed without removing the rear bumper or exhaust mufflers.
Just took her out for a quick test and pleased to say misfire is no more !
Will take her out for a longer run tomorrow in the sunshine.

All old coil packs were split and corroding with the exception of one ,a newer style, which I will keep as a spare.
Heat shields were toast - so are in the bin.

Would I do this job again ?
Yes
Now I know what I'm doing and which tools I need for each side, I think it would be fairly simple.
I might leave it until my wrists heal from all the scraping in tight spaces though ! []

Glad you got it done, on my car the aim now is to replace rusty fixings, I am shocked at the level of corrosion on some of the bolts . Did you not remove the exhausts because of rusty bolts and nuts?

I was only going to remove the exhaust if I got stuck, however I did notice quite a few of the bolts are corroded so might have been a pain in the backside to remove it anyway.
Think I should get some replacements and do the same as you - replace the corroded fixings.

Just as a side note to self.
Next time working on the Porsche and laying on the garage floor, remember to take the BMW keys out of your pocket.
Opened the garage door to go out for the test drive to find the BMW unlocked, with all windows down and the sunroof open.
Must have laid on the open button !!
Luckily it wasn't raining, so just need to clear out a load of leaves from the inside ;-)
