Hi chaps, I went out for a run in my 2004 C4 this afternoon and after a good warmup, I gave it some beans. The engine started badly misfiring and the Check Engine - Drive to Workshop light came on. I limped the 2 miles back home and don't know whether I should buy a diagnostic tool to try to find out what is wrong first, or chance driving it to my nearest Indy - which is about 15 miles away.
Temperature, oil pressure, coolant level all fine. Full service incl new plugs at RPM back in April. Nothing obviously wrong, so I'm hoping it is something simple like a coil pack. The misfire was very obvious, with power significantly down and the car rocking under gentle acceleration.
I'm supposed to be doing the Cotswold Rally in 2 weeks, so keen to get it fixed.
Any thoughts? And any recommendations for a reasonable code reader?
Many thanks !
