Mirror, Mirror (not) on my Porsche....

Giving mine the beans as I came out of a village yesterday up an incline which gave a nice 'bite' to the acceleration and as I snatched third and unleashed the ponies my OS mirror glass fell out![]

What's worse was that it made contact with the car 3 times on it's way down the flank[]

I had a look at new ones and they have all the gubbins for £54, so I have put out a call to the breakers to see what they have (also looking for armrest hinge and black armrest) had one come back with a glass for £15 and a hinge repair kit for £14+vat but no armrest.
We'll see what response I get....

Last time I bought an armrest hinge from Exeter Porsche Centre it was less than a tenner new. And then an extra 10% discount for members. Have you checked with randomhero, he's got two cars listed in the "spares" thread being broken?

As Paul says, buy the hinge new. I doubt that a breaker of any sort will want to separate a mirror though.

They wont: they still think that it is 1994. The game has changed massively but theyre still trying to deal and charge in the old way. That said, Im no fan of the small 'breaker's who have appeared all over, because for every price thats cheaper now, theres some clown trying to sell low value items for ridiculous BIN proces on eBay. Most dont know their arses from their elbows either.

I've learnt my lesson and always get a discounted OPC price before trying anyone else for prices.

I will see what condition the hinge is in. I don't have an existing cassette box or armrest, I have an odments tray with a jagged edge where a hinge used to be many, many years ago.....

Even if I buy a new hinge from an OPC I am still about £35 up on the other quote!

Received the stuff, and once I had read the Haynes manual for the 5th time I realised that you turned the Mirror retaining ring anticlockwise, not the screwdriver....Doh! So 30 mins of swearing for no reason then...

I then found that the armrest was from a pre-'86 car, Pro 9 immediately apologised and are in the process of swapping it out

Interesting about the hinge. The hinge on mine is fine, but the button to open it has seen better days. Another call to OPC methinks.
