Ok so let me be clear from the off - I didn't buy my Cayman S for its fuel economy !
However, as I am averaging 22.4 mpg on the daily commute and short trips driving, I decided to experiment on a works drive on Friday from Leicester (J21, M1) to Nottingham (J27, M1). This included several miles of 30 to 50mph roads either side with a round trip of 87 miles.
On the way out to Notts I sat in the slow lane of the M1 at 60 mph. I got some strange looks but by the time I arrived at my destination I had recorded an extraordinary 41.2 mpg (having reset the digital reading before I set off of course). I was astounded.
On the way back, I drove at a steady 70 mph on the M1 and recorded 37.8 mpg (again I reset the digital reading).
Overall then have to say this was quite miraculous mpg figures for an NA 3.4L Flat 6 engine !
I have been driving hard and around town over the weekend and the 37.8 mpg has of course dropped but is still showing 29.3 !
Anyone ever recorded higher figures for an 80 mile or so journey ?
