Minty's 16th B-day & Bad News

In Dave's 964uk.com article I was quoted as saying...

"I recall the memory of my first glimpse of Minty at 25yrs of age; drained of her fluids and hung on a stainless steel fabrication that looked not dissimilar to the Brooklands banking. From the curved walkway above the distinctly Zermatt silver theme could be easily viewed,.."

Not the longest of clips, but I remember it like it was yesterday ! (for those with a weak constitution - sorry about the 456 Fezza afterwards).

Andrew, not an RS but this is a very well know car in 964 circles that has just come on the market, in case it is of any interest to you. No affiliation.

Hmm interesting Steve.... funnilly enough during my search for the 'right' car in recent years I made a trip up to 9M and talked to Colin and Paul at length about having one of their 9m64RS M003 Clubsports built; in the end opting for...., well you know what.

Do you think the red one is one of their RS M003C's ?

It's not one of Colin's recreations but a 964 that was extensively modified by them under the direction of the previous owner, Christer (the one before the one selling it at the moment). The work carried out on the car is reported by Christer in a number of threads on Rennlist. The thread below is the 'for sale' thread when he decided to sell it on and try a GT3. Search the Rennlist forum on his name and you'll find lots more threads about the car and what was done to it.

Hi Andy

Just seen this post and caught up with the whole series of events, you have my sincere condolences but glad you were all ok.

Hope you get yourself a suitable replacement in the not too distant future...

Cheers

Ollie

I know of a turbo shell and Speedlines and a guy who would make it like new. PM if interested at Spa with him just now.

Feel for you.

Thought the damage did not look too bad until I looked carefully at the photo of the passenger side, must have been quite an impact. Glad everyones ok.

I suppose the porsche world is your oyster again, enjoy choosing.

Andrew,

Sorry for dragging this thread up but as i mentioned to you in our e-mails i had a feeling that Minty would surface through your insurers chosen salvage dealer. I heard this week that it has and is available to breakers/dealers registered with them.

Not sure if you bought another car yet or if you would want to go down the route of repairing Minty but if you interested let me know as i have a dealer mate who would be prepared to bid on your behalf.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the 'heads-up' on this, seems as though you may have been right although not entirely to my surprise either.

Take the route of bidding/repairing and having Minty back again? My heart says definitely yes! my head says no,......I've moved onto my next phase of Porsche ownership. The Minty I owned was unique, but I fear she will never be the car I saw at the Earls Court Motor Show in '93 again; for someone else maybe, but not for me.

What would you do?......You presently have twice the original Minty budget to spend on something like a MY08/09 GT or 07/08 GT3RS. I am really looking to acquire a stable in time and that could include another 9643.6T, but something newer is next on the cards me thinks?

I need to get the whole track day thing out of my system with the 964RS boys I think. Raping a tidy 964RS would seem like sacrilege to me so plan B is a 997GT3RS and a tidy RS later?

Thanks again for the message m8. [;)]

It occurred to me that now would be a wise time to share some of these with all at PCGB just in case you were tempted...these may help ?

OMG!!

That was one hell of an impact! To rebuild surely you would need a new tub! Which would ultimately be a new car.
That was one of my top 5 Faovourite Porsche's!

Any how Andrew, where is the 997 ?

Hi Simon,

The hunt goes on....along with a very close eye on current second hand prices as a result of the recent MY10 introductions. I have seen and driven many and of late am started to see figures of good quality 997 GT3RS below 80k.

The hunt for Minty took me a long time, but was well worth the wait...I am also prepared to wait for the right RS if that's what it takes :)

(May even wrap the Green or Orange car in L22R Mint Green when it comes, what do think?)

Regards

Would this of been the same car used at the Birmingham Nec motor show as i remember taking pictures of a mint green 911 turbo along with a red 911 speedster , yellow 968CS and a silver 968 cab cut in half !!

The very same Jonathan. See recently posted story of the car at http://www.964uk.com/html/Gallery%20-%20Minty.htm

If by chance you still have the pictures mentioned, I would love to see them.

at least they washed it before the pics:

Yes i still have the pictures,i think there about 5 or 6 of minty and even a few of a 959,they are not the best quality as they were taken long before digital camera's on a disposable and in a bit of a rush as we had jumped over the barrier onto the porsche stand !!.I will gladly sort them out for you asap but may take a while as they are prints and i dont have a scanner.

Thanks Jonathan, look forward to seeing them greatly.

By the way, the barrier you refer to is shown in this link from the Earls Court MS back in 1993

Hi Jason, I have to say the decision to go for the MkII GT3RS was made after weeks of deliberation over that and an earlier 964 version.

I have had a look at a few tidy '64-RS's, and spoken with one or two of the '64-RS brotherhood' following invitations to buy theirs. As you will know, I have made no secret in past posts about 'having to' have another 964 in a 'keepers collection', but for now I will just have to be patient and fill my garage one at a time, starting with a Green 997.

Now if I can just ensure better luck with the next purchase I would be content with that for now

Cheers mate. A
