My commiserations. However....
I have now sold this car (as I couldnt get on with it for a variety of reasons)

but it was only two years ago that it was put back on the road from being this....

So, if a porsche is really special or if the owner is determined, it can be repaired to standards that are as close to what the factory produced. It will always be a tarnished car, it will never be "virginal", the value is severely affected, there will be people who turn up noses but IF this is the love of your life, the likelyhood is that it can be reapired.
Good luck and keep the faith.

Not the easiest post I have ever made.........

There's a lot to answer and I will have a go in the smallest number of words..
Firstly thanks for all the positive thoughts and words of encouragement, and yes I'm OK.
Overview of Damage "" from the main impact behind the N/S door the shell is cracked/twisted in several places on the N and O/S rear; the front end likewise = new shell required.
The N/S rear & front running gear is totally U.S, oil return pipes damaged, exhaust, windscreen, possibly all 4 speedlines, the obvious mechanicals housed within the bodywork and much of the N/S bodywork itself, all in need replacement.
Cost of repair is conservatively estimated by Steve Stewart at Bodytehnics in the region of £63k, with the likelihood of good-sized contingency further increasing that figure.
Purchase in Sept was for £50k, her current estimated value is in the region of £55k and so the math's isn't in my favour.
Limited build numbers are being factored into the equation over values, however it never ceases to amaze me how silly some insurers can be, / pretend to be when it comes to initially assessing these values. A bit of games-man-ship was in evidence initially but the facts have been presented in a watertight way, so they have little room for further manoeuvre now.
Buy the car back? Probably not, time to reluctantly move on I think.
What next? Sort my head out and consider my options...no good putting that money in the bank as any more the £50's not protected anyway!
The Black on Black one at Paragon?"¦what's "˜Oli' doing with his lovely red 964rs?
Suppose it's too early to even think of getting something else really...i'll keep you all posted though.
Please all drive safely this summer"¦you never know what's around that corner !!

One can only hope that the rescuing is done properly, as the Muddmeister (Andy Mudd from APM fame, Bradford) did with the 964 I showed earlier.
On a personal note however, I prefer to have cars less bend than that in my stable but that's a totally different matter.

With my very low number of posts i'm sorry if i come across as a vulture, i usually spend my time on rennlist and pistonheads, but which salvage company is the insurance company dealing with as the engine, or the whole car, may be of interest to a friend of mine after a conversation with him this evening. He was gutted to hear of the accident but was glad everyone was ok.
Again sorry if i seem to be trading on your misfortune.
** As an aside, thank you for the article you sent me despite recent events, it was much appreciated.
I think i would take the settlement ( but not the first offer the ins co make ! ) then bank it in
two accounts if necessary and take your time.See you at Blenheim.
Just found this unfortunate thread after your email to me earlier this week. I'm so sorry and truley gutted for you and that iconic 'Mint' car.
Without doubt the best colour!!!

Still on for Blenheim with the 'rev limiter'..a weekend of cars and time to walk around a large stone built house with my wife is for those who know my business, just up my street!
Jonny, now you know the news I guess the register will have to be adjusted to suit?

Minty's paperwork was received from DVLA the morning of the 'accident day - 17th April. I had installed my cherished plate 455 AMB that afternoon from K113 GFL.
Any searches on the car in the future, should she be repaired by anyone after purchase from any source, will need to include these details.

We are also doubly sad as you were the first person to join us on the Display register, and we were encouraged by that, If you could put your car up then who could not want to join you. No advice from us though you will decide what to do, it is only metal and you are ok , that is the main thing. Look forward to seeing you with whatever car you replace Minty with
Best Wishes

So sorry to hear about 'minty'. My car suffered a similar fate two years ago, but was repairable as the chassis was untouched. Body Technics did a grand job and she drives to this day. I would still have a word about buying the car as scrap and getting BTech to give an estimate for a repair. What they can do for an Insurance Co and for an individual, may differ. Good luck with it all....I know how you feel....
Hi Paul, It was the references made to your car by Steve Stewart et al. and the excellent work undertaken by Bodytechnics that had given me hope for some weeks...regrettably not to be in my case.
Will be posting latest on insurance next.

Sorry to hear about your loss Andrew, I saw that you were going to attend the Poole evening at the quay on the 22nd may, and I was looking forward to seeing your turbo there.
Like I said, sorry about your loss.
Likewise Neil, it would have been a great event - and only a limited nr of Turbo's attending. Now even less!
I will look out for you on the roads in the South and especially when passing through R24.

Following a week of NU playing their cards close to their chest and stating they were finding it difficult to value the car accurately from Glass's Guide, (count to 10!!) at that point I was starting to get a little bit impatient with their apathy.
Following a flurry of calls this afternoon NU have conceded to full and final settlement on the car at £50k "" less £600 excess. [
I have clearly dipped out on any financial gain here; (possibly as much as £5.5k) but all in all I am OK with the end result. [
Concerning NU policy over providing details of the possible future recipient of the car they were adamant on this, stating"¦
"We have a legal obligation to ensure that the car goes to the "˜right' source",
"..and, (the real truth!) that they have fee paying web-based clients who will be afforded the opportunity to bid on the car and secure her for subsequent repair or whatever".
I stated that as an owner who has been contacted by a short list of interested parties, I would be happy to put NU in touch with each of them to broker any mutually fruitful outcome. It was clear that they were not remotely interested in such a suggestion!
So that means that we will probably be seeing Minty again somewhere, someday?

Andrew, not an RS but this is a very well know car in 964 circles that has just come on the market, in case it is of any interest to you. No affiliation.

Hmm interesting Steve.... funnilly enough during my search for the 'right' car in recent years I made a trip up to 9M and talked to Colin and Paul at length about having one of their 9m64RS M003 Clubsports built; in the end opting for...., well you know what.
Do you think the red one is one of their RS M003C's ?
From what you've said I would only be happy if it was reshelled and then it really isn't 'Minty' anymore.
My insurance companies offer a first refusal on the salvage (at 10% IIRC).
You could buy a 3.3t for under £30K, have your 3.6 engine fitted and anything else you desire then sell the bits you have left over. After buying new Speedlines you may still only end up with £15K and the 3.3t won't be worth more than £30K...
Will you look for another 3.6t?

[FONT=arial unicode ms"]Yes you're right there are many connotations possible over buying the car back, selling bits and transferring engine etc but to be honest I have too much regard for the car to do that; strange I know as I am walking away with the money, but if she is meant to be fixed she will be, but by someone else...I'm moving on!
