To add my bit/ experience in.....

For many years I've used Mintex 1155 (next grade up) for both fast road and track work (inc Spa, Ring etc). The 1155's can be a little slow to warm up, particularly at this time of year, but stand up very well to high temperatures in the summer.

For the late turbo's and S, the pads are that much bigger (lower demand too) and are more expensive but well worth the cost.

I note from the link that you must have a 220 turbo - these pads will fit front and back.

Something to consider is fluid and hoses (SS braided ?) and also worth upgrading the rear pads too as relatively speaking these do quite a lot of work on a 944, hence 4 pot calipers at the rear for S2 & Turbos.

Chris

I like mintex pads & have tended to use 1155 like chris. I've been happy with them on all sorts of cars. 1144 is probably a bit under spec for heavy track car. ( but great on my Honda). for road use I'd probably just use textar.

for track use the pf97s are better and are under £100 for the 220/s2 calipers. I think performance from cold is also a bit better & they are quieter, but wear discs quickly and are bad for your wheels / paintwork. .

I've got 97 front and 1155 rear at the moment and will go for 97 all round with the next pad change.

Ed

will be some time before you get to change the rear pads, after all we all know rear brakes don't do anything..... unless you drive an S2000......

Thanks for the replies so far. Im looking for a small improvement: probably what would have been called a 'fast road pad', as opposed to a more competition orientated part.

s2k's have tiny rear brakes / pads so overheat and wear out on track.

Simon - 1144 should be fine (nice & easy to bed in as well)

That explains why a previous owner fitted bigger rear brakes to my S2K! (As well as bigger ones up front). Very useful info - many thanks..

Thanks Ed. I wonder what the difference is between Mintex and Textar and Pagid, now that theyre all owned by the same firm?

well pagids are very expensive - I bet that won't change...

may depend on where pads get made - I assume each model has its own recipe.

I have 1144 on the rears and 1155 on the front of mine. Seem to work well on road or track. Fronts have a light squeal when cold and being used sub 30 mph. Stops very well hot or cold. I'd use again unless someone had a compelling reason to switch.

After mulling it over I had decided to go for 1155 fronts and 1144 rears, but it transpires that theyre made to order (or so Im told) with a six week waiting time! Ive tried to contact Camskill to see whether they actually have any, but thats easier said than done and in the absence of a positive reply I have bought two sets of basix Mintex pads to tide me over.

Im tempted by PF97 pads, but I understand the they have a terrible dust problem? Anyway, I needed the pads quickly so I didnt want to give £200 to Camskill only to be told that theres an excessive lead time. I was looking at S4 calipers last year, this might be a good time seeing that Id like new discs too...

Blimey you are amazingly indecisive Simon [:D]

I've always had prompt delivery of 1155 pads in various patterns. The s2 ones I got from camskill last year were pretty quick.

I knew what I wanted to do with the car when I bought it, but the ten speaker stereo, electric windows and electric everything seats have all grown on me... Ive looked at a couple of sets of S4 calipers, but they were both pretty badly worn, as well as furry. If theyd had good seals and pistons then Id have had them. Now Im not sure as the brakes were enough for a 436bhp Ferrari (rear admittedly, but they were rears on a mid engined 355 too), so theyll probably suit me - especially if I remove the seats, bonnet and hatch.

I have M1144s on the 205 Gti and have tried them in a Renault Clio 172. In both the cold bite is great, and on both occasions they gave a marked improvement over what came out over a wider range of braking conditions (Stock Delphi pads in the 205, and EBC Greenstuff in the Clio (the M1144s walked over the Greenstuff pads)).

I have tried M1155s. They are also great but they do need a slight amount of warming up on the road. But nothing too terrible (better than some Tarox pads I once tried in a Pug 306 GTi-6 (Jesus the initial bite was horrific!)).

The M1144s are such a great pad that I will probably chuck a set of those into the Triumph Stag of mine with the success I have had with them.

Mark from Camskill has just replied to me and confirmed that 1144s and 1155s are made to order with a six to eight week lead time! It looks as though theyd only tell you this after you had paid, which is disappointing.
