Manx Tour - Travel Insurance Required

I posted this on the 997 forum yesterday

Re health cover on IOM

Today I spoke to my contacts in the Dept. of Tourism and Steam Packet. This is the state of play at this time.

In March the UK Government ends it's reciprical agreement over health cover with the Isle of Man. It has already done so with the Channel Islands. This is seen on the Island as an outrage as it affects them much more than it does us as they will not be covered when they leave the Island to any destination. many of them spent their working lives on the UK mainland paying into the NHS.

This is how we (and several thousand bikers) will be affected.
We will be covered for accident and emergency. Will will not be covered for ongoing treatment.

There are several plans being considered like a small (very small) levey on travelers into and Islanders traveling to UK. Knowing the Island politicitians nothing will happen until June when they will be faced with several dozen broken bikers of many nationalities and their friends.

If there are any further developments I will post them on this forum.

News out yesterday evening, I'll post the official details when it appears:

Six month reprieve for reciprocal health agreement

CHIEF Minister Tony Brown made a shock announcement in Tynwald yesterday, revealing that reciprocal health arrangements with the UK will continue for at least six more months. Mr Brown told the court that the UK government had reconsidered its position and a new reciprocal health agreement would come in on April 1 for a six-month trial period. He said he had only been told the news by UK Health Secretary Andy Burnham at lunchtime.

In a statement, he said: 'As I said this morning the government has consistently continued to press the UK government through appropriate channels to reconsider its decision with regard to the ending of the reciprocal health agreement.

I can advise that over the lunch break I spoke again with Andy Burnham the Secretary of State for Health and I am able to inform this honourable court that the UK government has determined to reconsider its position.

Although I do not have all the details of what is proposed I can confirm that arrangements for travellers on temporary visits would remain the same as they are today - that is to say that Isle of Man visitors to the UK would receive free health care as would UK visitors to the Isle of Man.'
