Major service costs?

How much do people pay for the Major Service ?(72000miles)

Will need to do the brake fluid too

Cheers

squillions - my last one - in two parts including new discs and pads all round/two rear tyres/btake fluid/various bits of fiddling etc cost about £2500.

A good starting point is always the jzmachtech website. www.jzmachtech.com as they publish their menu prices. I think in terms of pricing jz are towards the higher end.

See my post on the 911 and porscheworld article as I would love to get some info on standard service charges.

That was the intention...

My car needed a lot doing as, basically, it had a full service history with an OPC so, while everything was done according to the book, not a lot else had occurred. The brakes/pads were exceptional too, and almost 40% of the cost, so don't worry too much.

Where are you based and who are you using? I use Camtune as I have a very good relationship with them. They are probably not the cheapest but I am happy to pay for the level of service and convenience which they offer.

This is my first service with my first Porsche!!!

I live Reading way

Have dealt with Portiacraft, Mill Hill London.....but not been over impressed eg repeated visits for same problem etc.

Was very impressed with Tongola when they did my laser alignment and have heard good revies about Northway (Reading).

Will start ringing round I think....

At least with a 993 you won't fall for the gearbox rebuild ploy. I had a 3.2 with, I thought, the worst 915 box in the world. So, after extensive test drives by a very well known independent with taped conversations all round whilst in the car, I took the plunge and went for it. £3K later it was just the same but didn't whine in 5th - great.

I should go to Northways as you can then catch a train out of there. You are looking at I believe £350+vat against the normal 12k at £205+vat

Why are u scare mongering, A major service does not have to cost £2500
Tyres and discs are not part of a major service.
I have been quoted at Porsche centre solihull for my next one which is major, and includes the service kit for about a grand.

Dongawoy - sorry mate; not scaremongering but being realistic. Many things are picked up at the annual service and this is how the costs build up and I don't think my experience is unique. Also, for me, if something is marginal, I will do it then, rather than leave it until later when it might be inconvenient.

Frankly, who expects to get away with the menu price? People who live in a dreamworld IMHO. These cars cost a lot to buy and for a reason - they are complicated to build and contain a lot of very expensive components which wear out on a regular basis.

And to your quoted grand, if you have worn tyres or brakes, expect to add another £500 to £1000 on a tt. Plus VAT.

Can also confirm my last major service at an OPC was around £2300. No tyres or brakes/discs replacement.

Servicing a 993 is an incredibly labour intensive process. This is the where the bulk of your money will go. A 996/7 takes a fraction of the time in comparison. I remember talking to one of the service guys about it, he showed me the matrix of what is done to each model when I asked about what work is carried out, and there's a world of difference with the 993.

Which is why at £100 an hour hardly anybody uses OPCs for the 993. Plus the fact they don't do the best work.

Hi,

My last 12000 mile service was £220 at my local Indy - major service is due next year, so probably add £150+ to this

I think that you can go for a period of time without incurring any significant costs, other than routine servicing / consumables but every so often an "eye waterer" will arrive, especially as the cars get older. These were £60000+ cars when new, and the cost of parts has not necessarily fallen in line with the cars purchase price [:(].

The first Porsche dealer I bought from specifically advised me to buy a car that I could comfortably afford, rather than extending my budget, to ensure that I could afford the ongoing costs associated with the car

Pete

I use Tognola, Peter and Greg are excellent, only five mins from Slough station by car or a five min walk from Datchet stn. No affiliation etc, etc, etc, just I have found them to be the best indie by far.

Dear Day 1 Zero - I live just outside Henley on Thames and have used the following who are both local and come recommended (by me):
(a) Tony Wright at Wrighttune in Wallingford which should be close by and he will likely give you a lift home. Did a full overaul and service on my car when I got it at the end of last year. Nice chap and has been doing Prosches for ages - or
(b) Simon Hope at Hillcrest Specialist cars in Nettlebed. He has done an RS2 of mine for the last 6 years and started off on the 993 - I only moved the 993 to Tony because Simon took a month off last winter just when the heater fan on the 993 broke and needed repairing urgently (frozen hands on drive to Bedford Autodrome persuaded me I couldn't wait). Simon has just done a big brake service on the Audi (which wears 993 brakes all round) with front discs and pads all round and spent some time searching round for the cheapest source etc

Either way you go they are both good people and streets ahead of any Official centre I have had anything to do with.

Good luck

Michael

Thats why I dont wait for the service to replace them. Beleve me, you dont have to tell us that these cars are expensive to run.
