It's just popped up on the configurator as a Special Order.
2 Litre petrol engine, model designation "Macan"

I think it only went on the web site today, I have paid a deposit (petrol engine version) but still undecided on the final specification but I have plenty of time to decide as it looks like I won't see the car until at least next April.
The "Macan" unlike the other 3 is not configurable yet so I assume that will change in due course.

Hi

Hopefully the 2.0 litre Diesel vision will come to the Porsche Build Site Soon but I have built a petrol vision at just over £45000 against the 3.0 Litre V6 Diesel at just under £50000.

Yours Kevin. [:)]

The 4-cylinder petrol Macan is special order only in the UK. And apparently its not the V4 that the Boxster and Caymen are to get - allegedly - but a straight 4. How old-fashioned!

Chris.

Expect it will be VW or Audi derived, like the diesels, to keep development costs down. I would have thought that The V4 is likely to be a Porsche focused model, at least initially - assume there are some links to race engine requirements, not just emissions - but I'm no expert on this.

I think it's at least a year away.

I did think they meant 4 cylinder boxer engines when I heard then original announcement re small turbo engines, are you sure they are going to be V's? Vs would make sense given the race programme, but I could be a mine of misinformation so will shut up......[8|]

I'm not sure they've actually said but to have a race-bred V4 based on the 919 engine would be a good sales pitch!

Unfortunately that's not going to happen Chris. The (90-degree?) V-4 configuration was chosen for the 919 on the basis that it's stiff enough to be a structural (load-bearing) component to which other components - such as the rear suspension - can be attached.

The I-4 turbo engine in the Macan is yet another derivative of the ubiquitous 2-litre VAG-Audi 4-pot, the latest version of which is reputed to deliver 400hp in the Golf R400 Beijing show car. Pretty impressive for a 2-litre and, if installed in a "base" Macan, would give the Macan Turbo a run for its money.

Presumably Porsche have chosen a flat-4 turbo layout for the sports cars so that the engine can be produced on the the same production line as the flat-6s, possibly using some common components too.
