M030 brake upgrade

Can someone tell me what is required to fit these to an S2? I understand an adapter will be needed as they are mounted radially but what of the larger rotors? Will these fit without a different hub?

I'm no expert on this, but I believe the M030 Brake discs should fit directly onto the existing S2 hubs, you then need a spacer/ adaptor to bolt the caliper onto the hub, oh and an adaptor for the brake line.

The question I would ask though, is why you feel the need to fit these to you S2 ?

The reason I ask is that in many years of 944 ownership (both S2 & Turbo S) I've never run out of brakes - Porsche are not known in circles for 'under' engineering their brakes....

Rather than upgrade to Turbo brakes, I would have thought a refresh of your existing brakes including, new pads, uprated pads (e.g. mintex 1155), decent fluid (e.g. AP 600) and braided SS hose all round would sort out the S2 even for track days

Because I want to make the S2 a 'Clubsport'. Similar to the m030 option but with some weight saving and other bits, as close to what may have been factory. Its less of a 'need' and more of a 'want'.[]

'Want' has to be the best reason to modify a 944.

Want is actually a good enough reason, although Id originally agreed with the first poster.

As the car cant be original in any way, Id look at later monoblock calipers, such as Boxster S parts, fitted using a machined adapter block. Cheaper, better and easier...

I appreciate the car cannot be original in any way but at least the m030 option was available on these cars, when it comes to resale value or kudos among fellow enthusiasts (most important[] ) I dont think the Boxster S calipers cut it, and they certainly dont look period, which for me is important.

Id go for the whole shooting match: hubs, discs and calipers. Easier and not particularly expensive, as the hubs themselves arent valuable. Youre going to need suspension though - more braking effort needs more suspension to work...

Quite, hope to get some Kw's fitted by RPM shortly... This is going to be a rolling project, Kwv3's, Recaro bucket seats, wheels + tyres, brakes, rear seat delete? half cage? perhaps later...[]

Discs will go straight on your standard hubs and if I remember are 304mm x 32mm.

Expect to pay £400 - £500 if you go down the M030 steering knuckle/hub route - 2nd hand!!

Really? Good Lord! I sold hubs calipers and discs for (slightly) less than that, although the discs were lipped.

If your wheels are 17 inch they should be OK - I think...

I'd imagine you don't need spacers, but of course, I can't give any guarantees!

Although I do very much approve of fitting M030 brakes, just remember, that a standard set up which is functioning correctly (no plate lift etc) with a decent set of pads is still a very, very effective set up and the extra unsprung weight of the bigger calipers, discs and adapters adds up!

I'd think very carefully about all the extra expense of the M030 brakes, especially if your car is mainly intended for road use.

True, but they had different hubs due to the radially mounted brakes, hence the question. I hear what you say regarding the present brakes, if we were talking big blacks or reds I would tend to agree, overkill IMO, the m030 are perhaps a good compromise between added weight + improved braking performance. As stated before its more of a want than a need...

By the way,

m030 calipers from Porsche Exeter = £398.60 each including vat.

Ive seen the stock calipers for £366 each + vat at design911.

If you need to replace existing brakes it would appear the m030 option works out much the same.

You will probably find Big Blacks are cheaper than both, certainly were when I bought mine..
