Lower control arm and MOT due

Hi,

The lower control arm on the offside of my 996 (1999 T-plate) needs replacing at some point. I'm just putting up with the noise once its warmed up at the moment. If i don't get this sorted will it fail an MOT? Haven't really got the cash to do the job at the moment and was going to get it done with it's 12000 mile service which will be in April. Anyone know if this can be picked up and is a failure?

Any help will greatly appreciated as always.

I wouldn't have thought it would be an MOT failure as long as there is no play in the joint, which is unlikely unless it has been creaking since the last MOT! The joints usually just dry out and creak horribly. They aren't hugely expensive to replace - about £150 for the part and 1/2 hour to fit.

Thanks very much Richard. It's not that bad and there is no play. There is an MOT station round the corner so hopefully won't have enough time to start creaking!! I have added my piccie and comments to the other post. Thanks again.

A friend told me a trick to stop it squeaking, if you take a can of chain lube or spray grease, cut the end of the plastic tube at an angle like a hyperdermic needle, then use a sewing needle to make a small hole in the rubber boot of the ball joint, stick the plastic tube in this small hole and fill up with grease and as you pull the plastic tube out the hole in the boot will close over again.

This will stop the squeak but will not stop any play that you may have.

Any ideas where there might be pictures to show this? Not sure I know exactly where to put the grease.
