Just had my AFM apart, looked ok, cleaned the track, well wiped it with some paper and pushed the contacts so they applied more pressure, well the back one of the three as it wasnt touching across most of the range, put it back together and took it out, it didnt misbehave spectacularly but the idle did drop as I cant to a roundabout and do the hunting, there seems to be a step in the power sometimes as well, its performing well (Turbo owners need not make a point at this juncture :D)

Will use it a bit and the next thing will be perhaps the FPR you mentioned if it keeps on annoying me with its antics, it was typical the one time it had its biggest fit was at the in laws who are terrified of cars over 5 years old that arent a german mainstream/prestige make that dont run on diesel.

Not sure if this is the site that clarks links too but good stuff on the AFM here http://www.the944.com/afm.htm On the turbo you can move the sliders down the shaft slightly which moves them onto a new part of the track.

Idle stabiliser valve is actually quite a common fault, they don't usually fail completely but get 'sticky' can usually be cleaned out with carb cleaner or similar.

Well,

Went to work in it today, had to pick a guy up from a hotel on the opposite side of Knutsford and as usual, roadworks, gridlock, expected it to be a pain in the arse, and it never missed a beat, had to sit round
waiting for him, left it idling, was fine, it picks up well and hasnt stuttered once today the bloody temperamental, freaky old thing !

Guy I collected was suprpised at how well it moved, he has an new Audi S4 and an old S3 and he is now thinking of adding a 944 to his fleet, he enjoyed the old school feel, might have just been a polite way of saying rattles a bit and smells funny though.

My new (to me) braided hoses, bleeeding, cleaning, new nipples thing seems to have done wonders for the brakes, they work well, have more feel and arent juddering.

So, maybe its cured, maybe its finished ovulating for this month ?
