You just need to remember to sell them before they rot http://www.sucksqueezebangblow.net/folder/2012/07/30/the-pictorial-story-of-mr-orchids-greenhouse-part-4-of-4-exteriors/

The car was, as one would expect at the price they were asking, absolutely immaculate both outside and in, above and below the surface. It drove superbly and felt like new.
They wanted £15k for the car which I wasn't prepared to pay. As Jon has suggested I thought a fair value for the car was between £10-£12k given a mint average mile S2 must be worth near £7k these days; the history and low miles should be worth a few grand on top of that but not almost an extra £10k. I explained my position to the salesperson and he indicated there could be movement in the price but not to anywhere near as low as £12k, never mind £10k.Needless to say i walked away.
Since then I re-evaluated what I was looking for and decided to use the DL car as a benchmark for assessing other less expensive and higher mileage S2s. The end result being that I ended up buying a car from JMG last Saturday! Car performs just as well as the DL and I'm not afraid to use it for fear of wiping off half the value! I will post pictures and introduce myself in another thread over coming days....
Interestingly though, while I was at JMG to collect the car I received a voicemail from DL wanting to discuss the 944 as if I had been there a day or two ago...Must be getting desperate....
Incidentally, Jon, which bracket would you place the 944 you sold me in??? [

Great to see you on the forums! I knew we would make an enthusiast out of you, which is why I was happy to sell you one of mine.
To be honest, the car you bought was a car that I think was worth every bit of £8k maybe more, simply on the mechanical standard as well the cosmetic standard that the price included being bought up to. However the price was lower because of what I thought was a realistic price that someone would pay for the car... But of course I did reserve the right to not just sell it to anyone!
Whenever I advertise a car, especially one of my own, I never get any paintwork done on it until someone has agreed to buy it, the reasoning is so that buyers know that the fresh paintwork is not because of accident damage.
This sometimes means that the value I sell a car for, is not as high as what people would possibly pay when they see the final example. Hopefully you were happy with what greeted you last saturday when you came to collect the car. It is rare that when I explain that the price includes XYZ rectification to stonechips etc, that people realise that I really do mean that I will be spending circa £1000 on having the paint sorted on the car.
The other thing that often people do not understand with cars that have been mine, it is not so much about selling a car for me, it is more about making sure that the right person is getting the right car, I know the car is going to a good home and that I am not going to hurt my reputation by letting the car out into the wild!
Believe it or not, there has been several people who wanted to buy both your one and the J reg cobalt blue one I sold earlier this year who were not permitted to buy the cars... I am not being funny, but I do get attached to all my cars and so will not sell them to just anyone.. Your turning up in a classic car, being really detailed when you checked over the car both went towards me getting a good feeling that you would be the right person for the car, as someone who is choosy about buying the right car will almost certainly be the kind of person who will really look after it.
The problem is, with so many 944 S2's being sold cheaply, which are often in need of repairs even if they seem to be good ones based on cosmetics, there is only just so much you could charge for one. However, having said that, I think that if I had held out I could have advertised that car at a higher price and still sold it, but it would have had to be less choosy who I let buy it, as the pool of potential buyers would have shrunk.
Anyway Tim, remember, the warranty really is no quibble and if not sooner, I look forward to seeing you and your/my baby when the warranty runs out for that free service and MOT as well as any bits that need doing

I actually test drove the Dick Lovett car about 2 months ago and was interested in making an offer on it.
Interestingly though, while I was at JMG to collect the car I received a voicemail from DL wanting to discuss the 944 as if I had been there a day or two ago...Must be getting desperate....

It will now be a 90 day headache to DL. They will be looking to trade it on if they can't muster up the advertised price via retail which means a potential big loss on profit, and some. However selling via trade will save some cash as they won't have to pay for warranties etc. Nows the time to rattle up the salesman if anyone really wants the car and willing to haggle with a view to do a deal on the spot. Just don't expect to steal it away sub £10k, worth a try though

Whilst interest rates are low there are people out there buying up the best of the best undervalued future classics with their spare cash and hoarding them. Nothing new but there's no point buying up higher valued over priced metal. There's more money to be had in very low mileage, low owner, full history cars like this Dick Lovett 944.

Haha, you've linked to TDK's website! Rich is a top lad and I've been privileged to take part in one of his adventures and hopefully more to come too!
