Anyone know anything about this car, on the face of it it looks pretty good. A mint white turbo is probably my ideal 944.

Anyone know anything about this car,

Car LOOKS fantastic, dealer has had a lot of criticism in the past and has been roundly slated on Pistonheads. Could be a bargain, but then we all know how they can look better in the photos than they really are. Caution advised, I guess? [8|]

Caution is always advised and I could make the worst shed in the world look pristine with just a few minutes in Photoshop. However, that does look nice.

Agreed Paul, however it does look unusually original.
but.......the front towing eye cover......!!
Its probably in the toolkit, but what an eyesore
Not my taste in wheels

The car has been discussed before.

I've seen/driven it in the flesh - it is an absolute time warp of a car...

It is however a 220bhp not a 250bhp model as advertised I think.

Only 3 services between 1990 and 2010 and then some not by Porsche or even a specialist. Still does have all the MOTs to prove mileage. The expansion tank looks a bit suspicious though, sticks out in the otherwise pristine engine bay.

Just checked the pics on e bay, i am certain the PH pics showed this car with a bridge spoiler ?

If this was the car owned by the TV chap from Fonejacker and sold by 4 Star Classics last year it is a good one. A highly original 250 bhp model (G reg from memory). I nearly bought it from him for £6500, but foolishly bought a cheaper car instead. Which has since cost me over £15k in repairs/upgrades. Last year the dealer sold it for about £11k, which is what the current dealer is looking for also I think.

I'd be very surprised to see such an original and low mileage turbo, from a dealer, go for much less than £10k.

Are you sure it is a 250hp car?

Could you spec a Turbo without an LSD gearbox (hardened 1st, 2nd gears), larger calipers etc back then, but still have the larger output engine?

When I went to see the car it had neither of the above.

Dealer selling this car has had some very -ve reviews and comments in the past.

Anyone buying this car, do you homework before buying. Search PH for the dealer.

Good luck.....

He is also selling an S2 that is where i saw the bridge spoiler, car looks spot on though, but beware as i went to look at a 993 he had, not a shed but he was not 100% in his description before itravelled, i specifically asked him about tyre wear he said they were fine.
The car wanted 2 new rears, say £500 for something decent.

Well you are buying the car not the dealer so get a full independent ppi and base decision off that.

But, you are paying a huge mark-up (at least in percentage terms) for the extra security of buying from a dealer not a private sale. If the dealer has masses of negative feedback then that's got to make that mark-up seem less palatable?

The real thing to consider is, as you are suggesting, that there are very few decent cars out there that don't have bills looming that will more than double the purchase price. Any good car is worth a look, regardless of the seller, so long as everything stacks up. And, it's worth paying over the perceived "market price" if the car is going to save £000s in costs over the next few years.

Even that raises it's own questions. I changed my car because the S2 was such a good deal. In hindsight, and it's not the seller's fault really as some things were surprises, but by the time I've sorted the bodywork and resprayed it I'll have paid at least double what the old Lux would have cost to restore to concourse-condition. So many 944 weak points are age-related, and aren't going to be able to be ignored on even the lowest-mileage, low-owner, never used cars. Fuel lines, caliper corrosion, belt changes needing a water pump as well, clutches breaking up, that sort of thing. Perhaps there is an argument for buying an average car that's had a lot of recent work, and investing in it, rather than paying for an "original" car, that might be about to bite badly?

Looks like it went all the way to the end and sold above the reserve for £8600. Was also on Pistonheads for £11000.

Did it sell though ? , I have seen many of their ads appear and re appear and there is a really apparent 'pattern' of 'sold' then back up for sale but at less than it previously 'sold for' . DFS springs to mind [;)]

If it has sold then I hope someone enjoys it and actually drives it for that money !

Will be interesting to see if any feedback is left. The reserve was set considerably lower than the pistonheads price which is a little odd.
