Looking to buy an exceptional 911S, freshly restored or concours winner

I would be grateful for any leads in helping me to find a truly exceptional quality 911S, from 1970 to 1973, either coupe or targa. All colours considered. Would prefer 2.4S but 2.2 is fine too.

I'm NOT a dealer, I'm just looking for my 'forever car' for me. I want the best and am willing and able to pay the right price. If you have been wondering if this is the right time to sell your pride and joy, and want it to go to the kind of dedicated meticulous owner who will lavish unlimited care and attention upon it, well now's your chance!

I know, I know, if I had bought one a couple of years ago it would have been half the price, but I didn't have the money then!!! Now I'm in the very fortunate position of being able to afford the best. And when all's said and done, if you are going to keep it for a long time they are still a fabulous investment even at today's boom prices.

I'll keep my ears open for you Ed. I believe a RHD one just sold at Coys auction yesterday and a figure north of 150K is being reported but I have not seen official confirmation yet.

What??? £150k ??!! That's amazing if true. I had a good look at the photos of that car and it looked a bit rough around the 'edges' to me! In that case, a 100 point concours car at, say, RM Monaco would probably be £200k or more now! I better hurry up and buy a good one before they get way TOO expensive"¦

If you don't mind LHD have a look at CPR restorations in California. Their cars look amazing on the website, they do complete resorations to a very high standard. They have a 73 Gemini Blue S with sunroof right now. I don't know their prices.

If you don't mind brown Hairpin Motor Co have what I am told is a very nice car right now.

I still miss mine, sold it for £26k, how sad is that?

Talk to Alan Drayson at Canford Classics ( alan@canfordclassics.co.uk ). He's working on several S's at the moment (2, 2.2 & 2.4) and he can source and restore a car for you to the highest standard. A high percentage of the remaining RHD 2.2's have been through his hands - lovely cars!

Try Robert Barrie: he had a 2 litre "S" and a 2.4 litre "S" for sale recently.

With regards to CPR I enquired about a fully restored "S" they had for sale and prices over a year ago were in excess of $170,000.

OK well, my search is now over for the time being as I have just bought the best car I could find out there, a LHD matching numbers 1973 911S coupe in Sepia Brown with black leather sports seats, electric tinted windows, non-sunroof, originally delivered to France, which has just completed a total nut and bolt restoration. I paid 170,000 Euros. It had only come on the market two days ago and I had to beat off some competition to secure it.

I'd been ignoring that Sepia brown car at The Hairpin Company because I wasn't sure about having brown but when you see a brown car with a fresh new gleaming paint job it just looks stunning - it was love at first sight with the French car. I love that it's one of the rarer colours, and so 70's. I'm importing it from France so it'll be a while before I get it home.

Funny thing is, as soon the Gemini Blue car sold for £170,000 GBP at the Coys auction on Saturday, someone went straight over and bought that brown one from The Hairpin Company - it must have suddenly looked excellent value by comparison so I'm not surprised it got snapped up. The Hairpin one looked a little tired compared to my new acquisition (well, in photos anyway) but I know it was well sorted.

Yes Robert Barrie has a blue one but I wasn't keen on that shade of blue.

HMY 7K is a very well known 2.4S and is reputed to have been the Earls Court Motorshow car. It has been featured in quite a few magazines over the years. The last time that I am aware that it was for sale was around 10 years ago.

Really!? That's absolutely amazing. During my ownership I had no idea it had been the Motorshow car!!!!! I have always regretted selling it (I sold it in 1995, for £20k, the same price I had bought it for two years previously). It went via Autofarm on a commission sale to a buyer in Ireland, and that was the last I heard of it. Oh no"¦"¦"¦. if ONLY I had kept it. It must be worth a fortune now. Oh well, I suppose it was just another stepping stone on the "car ladder" that has led me to this point in life"¦..

Yes I do recall back in the 90's being aware of a car with number HMY 4K very similar to my HMY 7K. I must have seen it somewhere back then. However my car was light lemon yellow.

Im not sure your car came to Ireland, I know most or all of the early 911s that have came here and can't place yours. Most of them ended up being rallied or raced and most have returned to the UK in the past 5 or 6 yeas.
